Chantix

I just started on myfitnesspal and also just started on Chantix. I was wondering if anyone else out there is on it. My problem with it is I am always hungry. I can't seem to get full enough. I post all my food each day on the diary. I try to eat as healthy as possible and get 2-3 walks in each day for about 15 minutes each. I have quit smoking so that is a good thing.

I was on Chantix twice and my advice is to drink A LOT of water. Not only does the medicine make you hungry but not smoking makes you want to shove a lot of junk in your mouth! Water was the only thing that helped. I have heard of people also using gum or mints. Congrats on joining and quitting! :laugh:0

Hello and welcome aboard to MFP.0

I thought I just heard that Chantix can cause liver damage and there is a class action lawsuit??? I could have heard wrong....0

Thank you -- I don't drink enough water each day. Some days are better than others. So will make a more concerted effort at doing that. Thanks for the advise.0

I took chantix for 11 days total,,,
I started the stuff, and smoked for 3 more days. Then I quit, and didn't really miss them. On the 11th day I forgot my pill and headed off to work - and when I realized it I kinda thought "Oh no - here come the cravings...",,, but they didn't come. So I put a pill in a baggie and stuck it in my wallet just in case, and I quit taking the stuff.
Cravings never came back, I never smoked again, the end.0 -

Well I just heard that smoking tobacco causes lung cancer and heart disease among many other health problems.
Honestly, most any medication can cause liver damage since most are processed in the liver. http://www.liverdisease.com/medications_hepatitis.html0 -

Freaky. same exact story with my husband. 3 or 4 days in he just stopped, no desire for one. He forgot about a week after that to take his pills & hasn't taken one since. :drinker: GL0 -

Not just any old drug doing some mild damage.0 -
my DH & i used chantix for a month and haven't smoked since. i did gain about 25/30#s from just the not smoking. i can't chew gum, so it was the food fix the hand to mouth.
my doctor told me that quiting smoking was more important than the weight for now. smoking can do more damage faster. he also said i had to be ready.
good luck.0 -

Not about liver damage. The claims are that Pfizer didn't sufficiently warn about side effects. Every medication has side effects. These folks feel that Pfizer didn't advertise them enough.

Assuming this is the litigation you're talking about. There may be one related to liver damage as well but nothing like that came up immediately in my quick search. Everyone's welcome to do their own research, of course. I absolutely don't mean this as a personal attack on you, it's just that folks thinking they "heard" something is a great way for myths and rumors to start so always ask for sources and check facts.0 -

Luck has nothing to do with it. It never even crosses my mind anymore, I'm just over it. It's been 2-1/2 years. If I start smoking again now it'll be 'cause I stupidly chose to start smoking again.
(I did gain 25 pounds - which is part of how I wound up here :grumble: ).0 -
Bumping for more input on Chantix, folks.
I'm looking at quitting soon. I want to... but don't want to. I don't want to deal with the cravings and becoming a psycho hose beast from the withdrawal. I've had stomach issues in the past (ulcers, acid reflux) but don't have any issues currently (about 1 year issue free).
Advice, thoughts??
And does Chantix make you hungry? If so, I need to know so I can be prepared.0 -
I don't think the Chantix made me hungry. I think my 20 year habit of sticking something in my mouth about twice an hour made me eat too much. I don't know if I was especially hungry 'cause of the med, I just gonshed all the time.
Be careful of it. Celery, carrot sticks, gum.0 -

I only smoke outdoors or currently in my car when I'm flying solo (*smacks hand* bad girl). Luckily neither of those places have food readily available to replace my cigarette, so I can plan to keep many, many crunchy raw veggies handy should I need to get that oral fix.0 -
I did the Chantix.
Within a week, I was totally ready to quit smoking.
It was great.
... until it triggered a major depression.
If you are prone to depressions, avoid Chantix. :ohwell:
My doc told me that until she feels my depression is back under control, I'm to keep smoking. :laugh:0 -
My mom took Chantex for a month, and she quit smoking. She hasn't smoked a cigarette in over 3 years, and she has smoked at least 35 years of her life . . . I NEVER in my life thought she'd quit smoking, and I'm so grateful she did.0
