Personal training yah or nay?

Options
So on my daily trip to LA fitness I was once again hassled by the personal trainers to try a "free" personal training session soo i did. the session was great i really worked my lower body got a great sweat. so after the session, the personal trainer and I chit chatted then came down to the nitty gritty (dun dun dun) pricing. he showed me the price if i put 149 down and 50 per session for 6 months. sounded great right. until he said i need to get a membership since i was under my mothers membership. which brought the cost up to 179 a month for a membership and one training per week. sounds reasonable? but lets take in the accountability that I am a college student paying a car note and insurance. soo basically my question is do you think personal training is a necessity or can you lose weight just a fine without it???

it is just another tool for you to use. I have never used one cause i cannot afford it and i have lost 130 pounds and become much more fit on my own.

    Used car salesmen.

    Find an accountability/workout partner.

I was thinking not too bad til u got to the "need to get a membership" and then I changed my mind. You can probably find a fitness trainer out there. My daughter has one and she doesn't belong to a gym.

I think you need to assess what's important. Does your budget allow for a $179 gym membership + personal trainer? Consider what your goals are for yourself. What are the costs and benefits of your membership? I don’t mean working out, but really think about it. How often do you go to the gym? Do you think your own gym membership will really motivate you to go to the gym more often, if you already don’t? How long is the membership for?

Do you think it may be much more cost effective to purchase workout magazines, watch some videos, or maybe research on workout techniques and methods? Researching is quite beneficial, in that you'll more then likely come across additional information your personal trainer may not be aware of.

If it's something you think you need, then get it. If not, consider alternatives to reaching your goal.

It's all about your discipline. Well, you can also get free ones on MFP but it still takes a little bit of discipline. If you don't have any at all, buy it!

For me, MFP friends & Shaun T. are more that enough. Unless it's David Beckham training me how to do the freekick!!!
