HRM question..

I know this is probably a stupid question but... I just bought a HRM and it's showing that I burn MORE calories than what MFP does. My question is this, does it add in the calories burned if you were just sitting on top of what you are currently burning? My maintenance cals are less than 1200 in 24 hours-50 per hour and if they are adding them I need to know because 50 cals added per hour of exercise makes a BIG difference in my daily food planning.

And before anyone bashes me for being under 1200 for maint calories...I'm 50 years old, 5ft 3, small boned and my goal weight is 120. If you really question the amts. calculate it yourself.

    It won't "add" them per se. but it will continually count based on your body parameters that you have programmed, whether you are sitting there or not. So if you have it on for a particular period of time, and have it tracking the exercise during that time, it should be fairly accurate (of course this could vary depending on brand).

    I don't know the site off hand, but I'm sure others will when they ring in... but there is one calorie calculator site that is pretty good and a good number of people will use it. I have it bookmarked at home, so if no one has provided it, feel free to PM me later this evening (I'll be home sometime around 830PM eastern time) and I'll be glad to send it to you.

    It does account for your RMR. But unless ou are exercising for several hours, it's insignificant.


    And I know you have it all figured out, but your weight loss goal should be set at "Lose 1/2 lb a week" now that you have only 16 lbs to go. You cannot afford the large deficit anymore. Those last 10-15 are tough unless you are super dedicated to your food and exercise.

    I'm 57. I'm not working and I live alone, so not a lot of activity. I eat 1500 - 2000, I have less than 10lbs left to lose, and if I cut back any more than that I stall. All I'm doing for exercise is walk for less than an hour 3-5 times a week. I don't vary my calories more than a couple hundred regardless. My HRM was a fun new toy, but I don't think it is that helpful unless you know your VO2 Max.

    Thanks. I do exercise a lot. I don't work but I do a LOT of yardwork, gardening, hiking, swimming and walking/jogging. I'm walking 1,000 miles for charity this year so some days I'll walk just 2 miles and other days, sometimes as much as 10 miles.
