I recently started couch to 5k and had a great run yesterday. Unfortunately today, I felt esp stiff around one of my ankles, and when I went to run today, my ankle hurt with each impact. It was so bad that I needed to stop after ten minutes. The pain is on the back side of my ankle and was a sharp pain. no bueno. What do you guys think is wrong... what should I do?

go to the doctor, if you can`t do that see if the pain persists more than 3 days. do not run during that time.0

If it's at the back of your ankle (above your heel?) it sounds like your Achilles tendon or soleus.
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
take a couple of days off and see how it feels, if the pain persists definitely seek medical treatment.0 -
Sounds like Achilles tendinitis. I've been fighting it for a few months. Just finished 8 weeks in a walking boot. Please don't mess around with this. Get it checked out. If you keep pushing it, it could rupture. You do not want that.0

Pain is never good. Please rest and take it easy. Running is bad on your joints and back.0

Stop running till the pain goes away. Do you have good running shoes?
Since you just started, maybe not running back to back but like every other day.0 -

I concur. I have seen what happens when an Achilles tendon ruptures. It is very painful and you don't want that. It requires surgery and will sideline you from major exercising for awhile. RICE is a great acronym to remember. I learned it while in the Army. Make sure that your ankle is above your heart though. I've seen people just have it raised a little, but for it to be effective, it needs to be higher than your heart.

Do what the other posters said. Also, make sure to warm up before running (stretching does not help reduce injury, warming up does... start by rotating/moving your legs/ankles/hips or whatever joints you're going to be using a few times in each direction, then do low-intensity work e.g. walking for 5 minutes or so before you start running).0

A number of studies have demonstrated that runners don't suffer any more osteoarthritis than the general population. Do runners get injured? Yes, but most running injuries are avoidable, they're either the result of too much, too soon, too fast or muscular imbalances (weak glutes, hips, core).
Running is contraindicated for some people with preexisting joint problem or those who are significantly overweight but even then it's not the running that's the problem......0
