Help Ive fallen and cant get back up.....

Remember those old life alert commercials? They seemed so campy but man I can actually relate to it right now.

Well this has been a horrible week. I started suffering from severe allergies and sinus issues last Thursday and its been downhill for me since. I compensated for my crappy feeling by eating, and often it was the only way I could stay awake at work after being doped up on allergy/sinus meds which make me totally loopy. Combined with no energy to work out.

I gained 4.5 lbs in 6 days....yeah you read that right.

Now that in and of itself is frightening but the thing that really frightens me is how fast I became unglued and reverted back to my old ways.

They say it takes like 28 days for something to become a habit. Well Ive been on this healthy eating and exercising routine now since Jan 1, that's 6 months of making good or at least decent choices. This is really my first major slip up. Yeah, yeah, I know we all have them. But if it takes 28 days for something to become a habit then why did it only take less than 7 of them to fall back into an old habit? That is frightening!

So I sit here scared but determined to get back on the bandwagon. Any thoughts anyone????? I could use the sanity right about now!

    Hi Cindi

We all fall off track, my best advice is to keep logging and make friends on here to support you! I've found MFPals a great support! I've been logging 25 days in a row now and Im delighted.
On the medical side, if you're feeling that crappy & its affecting you that badly Id suggest going back to the doctor & maybe taking some time off work until it clears up?

Hope you feel better soon :)

Well that is the first step.

The next step you already know as you have been on this journey a while.Yes you have had a bad week, but beating yourself up over it is not going to help. If you are well enough to get moving again do, if you can make better choices for the rest of this week do.

You have not created new bad habits, you have been ill and had a bad week. You are already refocused just continue and see how long the 4.5lb takes to lose. In a few weeks this will just be a blip on you progress graph.

Sorry you're feeling scared. :( This definitely happens to most (if not all) of us at some point. The way I bounce back from major slip-ups is I tell myself, "The past is the past. It's over. It happened. You can't go back and change it. Today is a new day, so let's move on." Cheesy as it sounds, I say it aloud and it really helps me focus and stay motivated to carry on.

    *hugs* Onward march!

Have you tried a netty pot? Works great you will be amazed how much better you can breath. If you buy one pick up a gallon of distilled water to use in the pot.
As for the weight gain the good news is most of it is water retension. As for diet try reading "Active Passive Diet" on line only and is only seven chapters.

Words that I live by are "Patience+Presistence= Progress" keep at it and you will lose the weight once and for all!

Good brief article explaining Active + Passive phases of weight rise & falls & stabilisation. Thanks Reneelee. Another way of looking at our bodies is to not panic too quickly regarding weight fluctuation so long as the correction is relatively quick in it's response.
