I have only lost 4 pounds but my clothes are looser and I am starting to look a little smaller. Why is this? What does it mean? Is it a good thing?

You could of built more muscle over time. Muscle weigh's more then fat. Losing inches is great.0

most likely you're building muscle that wasn't there before, and since 1 pound of muscle takes up a lot less space than 1 pound of fat you will start getting smaller even if the pounds aren't falling off like you think. I measure myself every week on the day I weigh myself, i measure my arm, chest, thinnest and thickest part of my waist, hips, thigh, and calf and I write them down on a notebook that I keep for just that purpose. It's awesome because I can look back to last january and see how far I've come in a year and a half, which helps a lot on days that i'm feeling discouraged. I've lost around 28 inches even though i've only dropped 16 lbs, I figure as long as i'm smaller I don't care what the scale says :P0

You most likely lost fat, but gained muscle! Muscle takes up less space per pound, so you'll look thinner even if you're the same weight0

This happens to me ALL the time. Either my scale won't move for 2 weeks, but I know my pants are looser, or my weight will drop but my flab doesn't budge! It's like my waist has to catch up to the number on the scale all of a sudden or something.
Anyway, it's a good thing. Small victories are still victories!0 -

A pound is a pound, but the others were right in that a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat.0 -

It means you are lowering your body fat %. Congratulations.0

I'm in the same boat! I actually weight 4 lbs more than I did when I began a year ago, but I am down 3 pants sizes. I would love the scale to move, but being healthy is all that really counts.0

WTG!!!! Great way of thinking and congrats on the inches (and fat) lost :flowerforyou:0 -
This is a very good thing. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you will start to look leaner before you actually loose a lot of weight.0

This continues to happen to me.
I write down 7-8 goals every month,Log in MFP, run/walk farther faster, etc etc.
After a while the scale seems less important and the fun begins because you are always winning and not in the charlie sheen sense. Just keep on trucking, the fact that you are trying is a win in itself.
Enjoy all your victories. Good luck!0 -

wow, you look 160, not 203. So yeah I can see the scale being a lying torture device0
