    Hot shower and Advil.

    Just the opposite!

    Hot bath
"After a long run or any tough workout, your joints and muscles are inflamed. If you put heat on them, the blood flow to those areas will increase, which can make them even more inflamed. In addition, you may already be slightly dehydrated post-run, and the heat from the hot tub may dehydrate you even more."

    Cold baths:
"An ice bath will help reduce inflammation of tissues and joints, relieve soreness, and speed up your recovery. Just fill your bath tub with cold water and get in, so your body can adjust to the temperature. Then dump in one or two 5-pound bags of ice (as tolerated). Stay in the tub for 10 minutes."

No idea but it it helps, I feel your pain. Did squats Tuesday and probably at the max pain today! Literally can't can't squat to get my dog's feed dish - he's not happy!

Probably will begin to subside. Usually the second day after I start exercising is the worst.

Advil sounds like a good idea.

    Cheers,

    Rusty

Usually when I am really sore, I stretch and do a low impact workout just to get moving again. Usually makes a big difference!

I just started doing StrongLifts 5x5 and boy am I feeling it -- seems Advil LiquiGels are helping with proper rest and nutrition (I am on the Paleo diet). Cheer up, it does get better -- I'm much less sore after the second workout than I was after the first!

As counter-productive as it sounds, just don't baby it. When I do big, soreness-inducing workouts and the rest a lot, I'm more sore than if I just keeping moving/using those muscles normally and working out. Also ibuprofen if things are swollen and icing :)

Great advice about working through it. Now please tell e how to get out of a chair? Quads are so blown I can't stand up!

Work through the sore. BUT future workouts should be followed with PROTEIN! You will be amazed how "less sore" you will be. I protein shake, Chobani yogurt, Muscle Milk (work best for me) or plain old 1% chocolate milk will do wonders right after a workout.
