Winter Exercises and Elliptical recommendations?

It's Winter here in Australia and it's getting to that: "short-day-long-night-I just-want-a-potato-casserole-and-lots-of-crusty-bread stage" . I'm finding that motivation to go to the gym and do my 90 minute workout is dwindling and to top it off I'm moving house to a place that is miles away from the closest gym anyway!

So, what do you in Winter for exercise? Is it worth investing in gym equipment at home, or should I just brave the outdoors and run?

And if you do have your own equipment at home (my fave is the elliptical) what would you recommend?

I find that the biggest thing to overcome is just leaving to go to the gym; once you're there it's fine. But I guess that's kind of irrelevant if you think it's too far away to begin with. Most of the people I know with equipment at home have treadmills coz it's a lot easier to vary the intensity of your workout, I think it's pretty easy to get too comfortable with the elliptical and find it too easy (but that's just my opinion). In any case, it doesn't even get cold in Australia so maybe you should just suck it up (jokes, coming from NZ  )

I have an elliptical, I drive past three gyms on my way home, and have a free one at work that I could go to, but I just can't make myself go.

I've stuck mine infront of the tv so if I'm sitting watch tv I'm eventually guilted into getting off my butt.

I walk a lot when there is no gym available. I also do other stuff as it comes up, tennis, racquetball, throw the football, whatever. I do have equipment at home but seldom use it.
