I've only lost 16 lbs. so far (some before I joined MFP) but have dramatically changed my blood glucose levels. I went from a 7.1 the first part of July to a 6.1 now. I've talked with my doctor and I'm going to start reducing one of my diabetes meds.

Congratulations! I know how you feel. I was able to lower mine all the way back to the "normal" range and my doc then stopped my metformin. That's been the thing that makes me feel best about this lifestyle change. Keep it up! You're very close to the the magic 6.0 or below!

Congrats!!!! That is so awesome! You should be proud of yourself!
  • You inspire me!

I got my first A1C back last Monday and it was 7.1. The doctor urged a lifestyle change even telling me I could get back to normal if I worked hard. It's great to hear of someone who is on the way! Keep up the good work!

A homerun hit, way to go! I am diabetic too, so I know how big of a deal 1 point can make on the A1C. I want to get mine back to 5.7, which I maintained during pregnancy, but I let myself go afterwards. It's a long way down there from a 10.
    Keep up the great work!

    way to go.

i myself am looking to change my doctor. my A1C has been under 6 for over a year now. i have changed most bad habits, workout, quit smoking. i asked if i can start coming off my metforman. he said well it seems to be working why mess with a good thing. :noway: what. no, i thought that was why i was doing all this. if not then bring on the food, and smokes. he still has me on BP meds when that has gone down to where i get dizzy and light allot. he said he wants me on that, cause it protects my kidneys from the diabeties. i don't know. i have a few i want to call and interview these.

sorry to go on. keep up the great work.

YAY! Good job! I can't wait to lower my BMI, it's saying I'm obese. Don't feel obese but if that's what it says, gotta change it! :drinker:

I'd ask him why. When my BP went down my doc stopped one of my 3 BP meds. When it stayed down, he stopped the 2nd, when it still stayed down, he stopped the last one. He stopped my Zocor when my Triglycerides came back to normal. And just recently, he first cut the dosage and then stopped my metformin when my A1C and serum glucose numbers came back to normal. He said we'll check it again in 3 mos and hope it stays down.

My doctor is very receptive to reducing my meds. My blood pressure has been really good and he suggested dropping one of my 4 BP meds but I told him I wanted to hold off on that a bit. If it's still good at my next visit, I think it will be time to get rid of one of them. I'm glad that I have a doctor that listens to me.
