Any other NOC shift workers out there? I just started NOC's this week. I work 10pm-6am. I tend to fall asleep around 8am and sleep until 2pm and then nap again from about 7pm to 9pm. When should I be eating and what days to a calculate? Thanks in advance.

I use to work 3rd shift did for 15 years, i ate very lightly before going to bed, eat your biggest meal when you get up and then have like a light lunch at work,, it is very hard to maintain a normal diet on 3rd (my opinion) i had gained quit a bit of weight when i was on 3rd. good advice do not eat because you are tired.. bad very bad,, i use to eat when i was tired i would over eat just to keep my self awake, take healthy snacks if need be..
that is my experience.. hope it helped.. good luck :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

My heart goes out to you. I worked nights (11 to 7) for 10 years and gained 60 pounds!!!! It is so difficult. I'll tell you what not to do. I used to come home from work STARVING and ate everything in sight then go to sleep. (This contributed to getting a hiatal hernia) When I woke up Iran errands, got the kids from school, did homework, got everything set for the kids for school the next day, made and ate dinner, then went to sleep for awhile. At work I tended to eat nothing just drank coffee.NOT GOOD!
I only ate twice a day and both times went to bed on a full stomach.
Some people at work ate at work as if they were working days (sandwich, salads, etc.) and when they got home they acted like they were coming home from work at 5 (exercising and eating a "dinner" relaxing and then sleeping until work). Others ate at work went home straight to bed, woke up exercised and did "life" then ate trying to keep to a 3 meal a day routine.
My advice to you is to try to eat five to seven times a day (spacing the meals when you are awake) and to eat light and healthy at each. To increase fruits and vegetables and decrease sugars and sweets. To make sure you exercise and try not to eat and then go right to bed.
    Good Luck!!!!
