calories burned/elevated HR from meds

My heart rate is elevated because of medication I take. Therefore, my heart rate when I'm working out (or resting) is higher than "normal." Intuitively, I think that would change the calories I burn based on heart rate... any idea on how I could accurately determine calories burned?

Thanks!

If it were me, I'd err on the side of caution and estimate lower than you think. If you happen to burn more, it's a bonus for you. You could also buy a heart rate monitor, I recommend the Garmin Edge 500 for cycling and running. Keep on keepin' on..........

I have a high rate that I believe doesn't match my level of fitness (recently went off beta blockers). I have a Polar HRM and I lowered the VO2 max so the watch believes I'm more out of shape than I am thereby giving me less calories for a higher heart rate. It's been working great so far and is very consistent.

I don't think there's any reasonably accurate way of determining how much to adjust your calories by. It's probably going to have to be trial and error. Start with eating back half of your exercise calories maybe and adjust from there?

I have a HRM, but it's a cheap one and doesn't tell me calories burned. I use a heart rate calculator online. (It allows you to input your VO2 max, though, so I guess I could try that?)

I guess it's working out OK, because I'm losing weight; I just want to be as accurate as possible.
