Question for those who use tracking apps..

I have a Garmin Forerunner 405cx and whenever I upload my data, it says i burned X amount of calories... and then when I import the same workout to Endomondo, it'll tell me I burned about 1/3 to 1/2 MORE calories... Not understanding why. My settings and weight are the same in both apps...

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/186902881 (1343 cal)
http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/62231493 (1906 cal)

again... same workout... and the heart rate is imported into Endomondo, so I would think they would give me the same burn info.

Does your garmin have a heart rate monitor? I have a garmin 610 with heart rate monitor and if I compare that to my runkeeper (no HRM-but otherwise the same settings), the calories burned are light years apart.

Just saw your HR update. I have no idea. I generally "spot check" my garmin # against a generic weight*miles*.7 and that's about where it comes out (higher or lower depending on actual HR for that run). Maybe endomondo isn't getting all the data ported properly or their algorithm is different? I really have no idea. Sorry-I'm no help.

It does... I did just make a last minute edit explaining that the HRM info was also imported. Unless, the endomondo just isn't taking it into consideration.

Haha, now see, if I use that equation, the result is almost right smack in the middle (1620)

Hmmm. I'm guessing that the distance & pace and all that jazz matches up? Neither one is "autopausing" if you under a tree or anything? I really don't know what to tell you-except to triple-check and make sure all the settings are really as "same" as you think-and that the garmin is set for running (not biking if the 405 does that), and that you're getting data from satellites when you're outside (vs footpod if you have that-and I don't know if it would make a difference-just thinking endomondo definitely doesn't have a footpod). And my garmin has at least 700 fancy schmancy features that I don't use. Maybe the 405 has some setting that's inadvertently turned on and you don't realize it? I'm sorry-I'm still no help-but that's all I have to offer.

Hehe, thank you for taking the time... Nah, everything is set for running/walking... it could come down to one of those hidden settings on the Garmin. I think I will utilize and record the result of that equation, since it's right in the middle of both numbers. 1300 does seem a bit low for 3 hours of jogging/walking hills, and 1900 seems a bit much for anything.

Edit: Nice pup, BTW... I love doggies.
