Treadmill calorie calculator accuracy

I was wondering if anyone has used this online treadmill burn calculator?

If so, how accurate do you feel it is? I don't currently own a chest strap heart rate monitor to compare calories, but I would love to hear others thoughts on it.

Subtract 25-35% from the total calories burned on a machine. They're not very accurate. You'd be better off with a HRM and tracking it yourself. Good luck!!0

The equation they use is set for running not walking (I guess they assume everyone runs). If you use it for walking speeds, the calorie count you get will be almost double what you actually burn.
If you are walking on a treadmill, and do not hold on to the handrails, then the calorie count you get from a commercial treadmill will be as accurate as any other method, and likely more accurate than an HRM.
Running is a different story, but, for walking, treadmills use a simple and very accurate equation to estimate calories--all you need is to input your weight. Nothing else is needed.0 -
Thanks! It's great to hear other people's ideas on stuff like this.0
