Our metabolism slows way down when we hit our 40's. The good news is the more muscle you can build the more fat you burn so exercise is essential to lose weight. I just started on trying to lose weight after having a baby in Dec, I try to get at least 30 min of cardio each day and strength train at least 2-3 x a week. Its tough with a little one though. Feel free to add me as a friend and lean on me for encouragement.

I joined MFP in August 2011 at age 59. I was amazed that the plan worked so well! I'm maintaining now, but I lost 40 lbs by logging my food, doing various forms of cardio almost every day, and doing strength training 3 days a week. You're just getting started here so don't be discouraged! I started out walking and doing Tae Bo DVDs. In October, I added Chalean Extreme for strength training. In January, I started the C25K running plan. In early March, I met my goal (-40 lbs.) In April I started the Bridge to 10K running plan. Today, I ran my first 10K (without walking). I'm 60 now, and I love being fit. You can do it, too! Keep moving and keep pushing yourself. Our bodies are amazingly resilient. Try a variety of activities to stave off boredom and to find out what you enjoy. Have fun with this--it's exciting!0

Yup, I feel for you. I'm 60 and it was harder, but I can be done. Make sure your thyroid is in good shape. Mine wasn't working & had to go on meds. Lost more than 80lb now, can actually run 5k, haven't managed 10K, kudos to the poster above. Just be patient, get your food healthy and gradually get the exercise going. Add me if you like, happy to support you.0

Hello. I'm 43 years old. I've been on this site since January 2012. So far, I've lost 23 pounds (from 155 to 132) and I've gone from a size 12 to a comfortable size 6! I eat healthy (on most days), and I exercise at least an hour a day 6 days a week in an effort to keep my metabolism moving. Feel free to add me if you like.
Best wishes on your healthy living journey!0
