Beer gut...bubble butt...looks like we all have problem areas!! I finished my first week and while I haven't stuck to the diet to the best of my abilities it has been working great and I love the variety of exercises and the fact that I can feel every muscle being worked. Most of which, I might add, I didn't even know I had.
Nice job finishing up week 1!!
I just finished week 2 of my 2nd round. I lost a total of 30 lbs in the first round and have last another 3 so far this round - diet was a little off due to travel this week.
For those just getting started, the beachbody site has some great 'team threads' that really help with motivation. You may want to check them out.
Best of luck to everyone, regardless of how you get there!

Wow, fantastic job everyone! I'm very impressed. I also started doing spin classes a couple days a week for an additional workout and it's truly amazing what doing well for your body can do for your mind and energy. Lost 4 pounds already just from busting my *kitten* and giving up foods that pollute my body. Keep it up everyone!!
@CanukFit, I know the feeling! I work at a sushi bar and hot sake is my vice. I used to drink a small one after every weekend shift. I lowered my intake to not even half of one, but it's still sometimes good not to deprive yourself of the better things in life0 -
I've decided to start with P90X!!!! My first one was yesterday and now I'm having trouble typing b/c of how sore I am....
How are you guys tracking your workouts in MFP?
I'm looking forward to the journey and see results at the end of the 90 days0 -
I'm actually starting P90X tonight after doing the fitness test last night - that in and of itself was tough!
Going to use myfitnesspal to track what I eat, although I'm not to *strictly* follow the diet plan, just trying to keep the right balance of protein/carbs/fat and not eat too many calories.
Hope Day 1 goes well...0 -
I just finished my second round of P90X. I love the program! The first time I did it, I didn't follow the proper nutrition. I did get stronger and gained some muscle, but you couldn't see it because I didn't shed body fat.
The second round, I followed the plan exactly, had a Beachbody coach that I reported to weekly for advice and tips, and gave up caffeine and alcohol. I did it the right way, to see if it made a difference. It did.
I lost 3 pounds in total on the scale but that's not where the you will see the changes. I lost 9.9 pounds of body fat, gained 6.9 pounds of muscle, lost 6.17% body fat and 9 inches overall.
I wish I would have followed it the right way for the first round. I worked hard for 90 days and didn't get the results I wanted.
I say if you are going to commit to it, commit to the whole thing. 80% is diet, no matter what you do.0 -

Do you think giving up caffeine was beneficial? How did it help you? That's one vice that I'm not sure I'm ready to part with. I need a cup after waking up and another prior to working out.0 -

I really only drank one cup in the morning so I didn't feel I missed it. It was more the habit of drinking it on the way to work, which I soon replaced with a protein shake. My issue wasn't breaking the caffeine, it was more sugar and bad carbs.
I think the whole issue is to find that high naturally without screwing up your levels, or something like that. Here is a blog on it...

I say, if you can't go without it, giving up all the other crap and eating the way he says, and ditching alcohol for 90 days will still get you to the point of success. I gave it up because I wanted to do the whole thing the right way. I didn't miss it after 3 days and slept a whole lot better than I have been this last week now that I'm drinking it again. I think I may limit it back to weekends only.0 -
I was mostly a Cardio person too but am looking to get toned now. I started P90X weight workouts only right now due to a knee injury from Insanity but plan on doing the whole program once I get clearance from PT. In the few workouts I have done I can already see a difference!! Can't wait to be able to do the whole program0

9 90x is a great workout! I have done them and I like it a lot... I will say that if you like boot camp style workouts I LOVE insanity, worth every penny to me0
-
I dont' know how someone can dis P90X. Probably doesn't really understand how the body works. That's OK. There's ton of proof that it does.0
-
I use p90xcalories.com... follow the instructions. I always do mid intensity. Undercompensate the workout and overcompensate food intake to be sure. Good luck, you'll love it and will definitely see results!0
-
I'm starting p90x on Monday, I've never used it before. I am just finishing up 30day shred and have lost 8 lbs, I am looking forward to gaining some muscle and getting leaner.
Keep us posted on how you are doing and how you like it! -I'm interested since you will be a bit ahead of me on this.0 -
For those who saw good muscle retention Did you guys eat a deficit or maintainence?0
-
I really like to combine the p90x workouts and cardio. I didn't want to cut out all cardio but I wanted to tone some of the key areas p90x targets. I have had great results - and it is sustainable long term. I follow this routine generally -
Monday - Cardio (running) + abs (either my own workout or p90x ab ripper x)
Tuesday- P90x Plyometrics (in my opinion the HARDEST p90x workout)
Wednesday- P90x Arms and Shoulders
Thursday - Cardio (running)
Friday - P90x Legs and Back
Saturday - Cardio (running)
Sunday - off
Sometimes I will switch in p90x Kenpo for one of the running days just to mix things up.0 -

I'm on my fifth week, and definitely think that Plyo is the hardest of p90x, i starting doubles this week, and change the yoga for other workout that combines yoga and pilates, because i think that Tony Horton version is too long, not a lot of weight loss, but starting to see some definition.0 -

Maintenance on P90X for me would be 2400 calories a day. My coach put me on a deficit so I would lose body fat.
I was told to eat 1800 calories a day, regardless of what workout I did that day. On my one rest day I dropped it to 1700 though.
I am also a runner and run 3-4 times a week, around 6-10K, and a long run on Saturdays, around 18-20K. My coach told me to eat back half my running calories when I added a run to the program days.
I should add, if you don't eat enough on this program, you won't have success. You really need the fuel to build muscle.0 -
I ate a deficit - mostly because my main goal was to lose body fat, but tone in the process.0
-
Well I have 23 days left with my first rotation with P90x and so far I have gotten great results with it up to this point. I've gone from no visible abs to Visible abs, if you push yourself hard enough you will get the results you want. It's the same with any type of workout, all you need is determination and drive.0

I like this! I'm about to finish my 2nd round of P90x today, actually......and am trying to work out a maintenance plan. I like this a lot but it's very different from what I have been sketching out for myself. How long have you been doing this hybrid...you don't feel you have lost any ground? I want to get to this and am so worried about losing what I gained.....thanks!
by the way, on the overall discussion, I love P90x.......the dicipline and strength you gain is amazing. I was already at my lowest weight when I started, so I didn't lose weight, but it definitely has made me stronger and sent me out of my comfort zone--a very good thing. I would highly recommend it.0 -
I really really think the hybrid cardio/P90x is the best combo for me. I have been doing it since February 2012 and have lost almost 20 lbs. That being said - I had 20 lbs. to lose. I have never had any trouble pushing myself when it comes to running or cardio but I have almost no weight training experience and I was always scared to get bulky. Running is something I like to do and weight training isn't. I think that using the weight training portion of p90x gave me a great starting point and I like the way the workouts can be modified (lighter weight more reps) to build and tone lean muscle. I have also found that doing the plyometrics p90x workout has really improved my endurance and agility when it comes to my own cardio workouts. I have also worked on my eating habits - I track virtually everything that goes in my mouth.0
-
Do it!
I lost a ton and gained muscle mass and definition. Plus, I enjoyed the ease of "just push play" and will swear by the results.
I tell my friends and family to enter slowly and go at your own pace. No one expects that everyone will be able to keep up early on. As you get more comfortable with the program, you'll find that you can do more and more. As you get better at the individual exercises, be sure to max out your efforts. Tony will tell you what your goals should be. You should be struggling on those last couple of reps. The schedule is pre-thought out. I would try to follow it as closely as possible. This way you're hitting all the muscle groups and getting in your cardio.
Good luck!

They are two different programs....Tell you what, look at my profile for today's workout, it is essentially DVD #3. To summarize, i'm doing 12 set of Shoulder, 12 sets of Biceps, and 12 sets of Triceps. P90X is more for building muscle, cardio vascular/cutting. Insanity is more for lean and cutting....really your choice. If you go by cardio..insanity is tougher....if you go by pure weights....P90x all the way.0 -
Looking at all the posts and replies is dizzying..I run P90X all the time, i only workout 3 days a week...its all i have time for. If someone asked me what the diet plan is, I would have no idea. I eat pretty clean (wine counts right?). On days I lift, I eat more calories and protein..how much ..not sure...just more :-). On days i don't lift, and may or may not do cardio, i eat very little....i may also fast one day a week, just depends on how i feel. I try not to make it too much of an exact science on the food part. The only days I concentrate on exactly what I eat, and what supplements i take is on weight days.0

The best thing about P90X is that there is nothing special about it. It is simply basic weightlifting, easy moves that you can take to the gym if you want a break from home.....Try the Ab-RipperX, has its own DVD, and comes at the end of every weight training day... :-)0 -
