Protein Counter

I have a quick question..
My goal is to lose body fat and build muscle
I'm 5'11 240 pounds
I want to get down to about 210-215
The stat sheet on MFP says I should only intake about 85g of protein daily...but to build muscle I thought I at least needed 1g of protein per my body weight...meaning I should intake about 240g of protein daily. Please help as I'm confused. Thanks

change your macros to 40% carbs, 40%-30% protein, 20%-30% fat

Can I do that on MFP?

Yes ... go to My Home and then choose Goals.
I found I had to change the protein first, the fat second and then let it choose the carb amount since I want low carb/high protein and i don't think low fat is good for humans at all. The body needs GOOD fat.

...and just to add....you want about 1g of protein per lb of lean body weight. Not total body weight. So subtract out the percentage of body fat you currently carry.

FTR, the rule of thumb for protein is 1 gram per Kilogram of lean body mass. If strength training go up to 1.5 to 2 grams per Kilogram of lean body mass. For endurance training, between 2 and 3. 1 gram per lb of body weight is over the top and not nessesary. To convert your lean mass to Kgs. Take lean body mass number and divide by 2.2. Eg. lbm 175 / 2.2 = 79.54
