Does anyone have exercises that you can do at home using household items as weights? I cannot afford a gym membership at this time. I do Zumba online,,,but I also need strength training. Thanks

  • You can gain plenty of strength with body-weight only exercises. Check out this website for some examples:

Push-ups, pull-ups/chin-ups and body-weight squats are some of the most effective compound exercises you can do. You can easily do a full-body workout with only your body-weight.

Do a Google search for some more examples. Some exercises such as pull-ups are too difficult for many beginners (especially if overweight) to perform even one, but there are alternatives (such as negative pull-ups) that will help build strength to build up to the real exercise.

    HI,

There are a lot of good exercises you can do without weights. I'll give you a few ideas as well as an article.

-Push ups are great upper body workouts and you can add variations with wide, standard, military, staggered grips, etc. The nice thing is you can basically do maximum reps and keep a log and try to do more each day. Even if you have to start on your knees until you build strength it is a good workout.

-Squats and lunges are good for lower body. Again body weight alone is a good enough workout. You don't need to add any weights.

-There are many ab/core exercises you can do without weights. Different variations of situps, leg raises, etc.

Check out this website it is for workouts while traveling - but also applies for at home without equipment. It has a lot of good ideas and suggestions. If you want to buy the resistance bands, you can get a full set on ebay for less than $20, no need to spend a lot of money at a sporting goods store.

    Hope this helps!
