Hi, I found out about this site via a cooking website post. I have struggled with weight issues most of my life, and have had diabetes for about 10 years. I'm only in my early 30s. I had a doctor appointment recently, and we decided that I really need to take a shot at getting down to an appropriate BMI. I'm overweight by about 21-23 lbs. I had seen a nutritionist about 4 years ago, but it was really too expensive to go back. She actually recommended the 1200 calorie diet for me, which this site suggests as well, which makes me feel comfortable trying this site. Using this site, I've found out some of the foods I thought were on my diet were pretty high calorie. A lot of what I eat is homemade. This site has a great feature of putting in the ingredients in a dish and coming up with the calorie content per serving.

I hope to gain a little support from this post. It has been tough. I was obese at my brother's wedding 4 years ago and slimmed down to overweight. I have been stuck at overweight for about three years... I'm hoping to have a normal BMI by year-end.

Thanks. I have realized that I've been eating 50% more calories than I ought to for years. It is tough, because I feel I have so far to go. I'm hoping to not need diabetes medication if I can get my weight down. I bought the "biggest loser" food scale at a local store over the weekend, and am weighing or measuring everything I eat. About four weeks ago, after I started yoga, my friends kept saying how great it was that I had lost weight. Sadly, I hadn't lost any at that point. It spurred me to try to lose weight. When I saw an article on a cooking website I go to about myfitnesspal, I decided to try it. So, I'm hoping to be successful. However, it isn't easy.
