When I first started using MFP I struggled with inputting my own recipes because many of the ingredients I use are not in the database or if they are they are often outdated so I always take the time to add nutritional information of any foods that I use in a recipe into the 'My Foods' section before I begin to log a recipe's ingredients, that way I know that the details are current and correct.
It only takes a few minutes but gives peace of mind that the recipe will contain the correct nutritional information.
    I hope this helps. :)
