What is the most nutritious brand of noodles? I dont have a lot of money and have been living off of noodles for the past month... right now i eat what i have which is generic regular pasta. I'm not sure what im looking for. I saw some noodles at tops that said "samonela (NO Idea what the actual spelling was)

  • I LOVE Buckwheat Soba noodles. Just make sure they have buckwheat in the first few ingredients. High protein, not bad on calories, and delish.

Not really nutritious, but I just tried shirataki noodles for the first time in a stir fry. They're almost calorie and carb free and are great for low-carb and south beach diet (which I'm on just recently). From what I've heard and read, preparation is key, and a lot of people prefer to use it in Asian dishes, although some people have tried it in Italian dishes and enjoyed it. My chicken peanut stir fry was delicious and I was really impressed!

Yes the buckwheat soba noodles are excellent.
  • I also have tried rice noodles- they are pretty good!

I use plain noodles, frozen broccoli, and a kikkoman stir-fry sauce that only has 20 calories per serving and make some delicious pasta :) The whole meal costs less than $5.00 and you can make about 8 servings from all the stuff. One serving only has 400 calories!

I use brown rice pasta; it's not too expensive and the texture is really similar to plain noodles.

You can find you basic whole wheat pastas from Barilla and ronzoni for less than 2 dollars a box. And more often than not the have them 10 for 10 or buy one get one free at alot of grocery stores. They aren't perfect in nutrition but they are a few steps up from your basic white pasta.

The right ingredients and you can have a cheap and healthy meal.

    Olive oil
Fresh veggies such as squash can often be found for about a buck a piece but usually less in most places
    onion
    Garlic
    mushrooms
fresh or frozen spinach, broccoli, carrots, peas etc
    tomato
    parsley or basil
frozen stir fry vegetables go a ways and can be used with the noodles and soy sauce for a quick chinese inspired dish.
low sodium soy sauce or sesame sauce.
packaged sauce mixes like thoes by knorr (alfredo, pesto creamy garlic) The sodium is a bit high but by using low fat or fat free milk you can cut out a lot of calories.

And if all else fails hunts has canned pasta sauces that are about 1.50 for a good sized can.

    Good luck!

It's semolina - you do NOT want to be eating salmonella ;)

Not noodles, but you can buy bulk quinoa for pretty cheap and dress it up the same way you would pasta! It has lots of protein/fiber. It might be a nice way to change it up :)

Noodles are my kryptonite... I personally buy the brand/type that I will not polish off a whole pot of. I've been substituting spaghetti squash but it's not as satisfying...

Can you tell me what brand you use? The only brown rice pasta I really liked was a brown rice/quinoa brand. The other ones I've tried have had a pretty mushy texture that I couldn't get past.
