Feeling shaky

I ate my usual breakfast, a bagel, and have had tea and coffee since. I began to feel a bit shaky around midday so had 2 slices of weightwatchers bread and a banana (more than I usually would bother with at lunchtime). I still feel a bit wobbly, but don't know whether to attribute this to anything in particular. I shouldn't need more food, as I have only been walking today and I don't feel hungry at all. Any suggestions as to why, and what I should or shouldn't do?

You are eating a lot of simple sugars that spike you blood sugar levels then quickly fall - which could be a big part of the problem. Try adding some fat and protein to your snacks and breakfast to stabilize your blood sugar and give you more consistent energy. Maybe instead of a bagel you could have two eggs cooked in olive oil and a bagel thin? Less carbs, more protein and some healthy fat. Similarly, instead of the banana for snack how about an apple with a tablespoon of natural peanut butter (not the sugar loaded junk food brands).0

I'll take your advice on board, although not the specific foods as I hate eggs and peanut butter!! Thanks for that.0

I always feel shaky a couple hours after eating just carbs for breakfast. If you don't like eggs or PB what about a string cheese or a protein shake?0

You need more protein. Go for the yogurt. And frankly I don't know how you survive on so little food during the day.0

I agree with the others in saying that you need more fat and protein... tough that you don't like eggs, cause they are a great breakfast food. Other suggestions, Maybe oatmeal for breakfast , or yoghurt and muesli with an added nut blend, Almonds are great. or maybe try some lean turkey and cream cheese on your bagel. Protein shake is a good suggestion too.0

Bacon would be a better breakfast than a bagel - more protein and fats for the same calories.
Your protein is too low most days.0 -
It's the bagel. Too much sugar. You overproduce insulin to break down that sugar, and when it's done you crave more sugar.
Bagels are pretty bad.0 -
It could be the caffeine in the Coffee and Tea, unless it is decaf. Depending on how much you are drinking and if you do not normally drink highly caffeinated beverages. If I drink a ton of coffee I get shaky. I had a real problem living off of it when I was in my late teens, I didn't care much for sleeping.0

Sorry, unless we are talking about turkey bacon, what she needs is protein but the type that gives some fat but bacon is mostly a source of fat Fish, low fat cheese, greek yougourt , which has 3 times more protein for the same amount of yogourt as regular, small handful of nuts, those are vegetable source fat and actually help decrease or prevent high levels of bad cholesterol.
Bacon is high in cholesterol and that clogs arteries in the long run.
For sure some protein will stabilize your sugar level, your symptoms might be hypoglycemia, or something else. If more protein doesn't help, see your doctor0 -
One thing I like to do to still get protein from eggs is put it in oatmeal. While the oatmeal is cooking on the stove, I add in some egg whites (that I have already whisked with a fork) to the oatmeal and mix vigorously for about a minute. This helps make the oatmeal a little more fluffy, while giving you protein that you can't even taste. After the oatmeal is cooked, I like to remove it from the heat and add some vanilla extract to further insure that I won't taste any eggs. You could even go a step further and also add some protein powder to the oatmeal for even more protein!0

The OP is light on fats too, and we won't go into what all the carbohydrate is doing in terms of cholesterol profile.0 -
That has been happening more to me then ever..and I am eating better, well lately I have been busy getting ready for my daughters wedding, and no matter what I have, protein and carbs,,just protein, just carbs..it has been happening..I had blood work..yeaterday.
So if it happens again see a dr...
Also it just started off and on since I have gotten older,
Good luck, hope you can get the combo right and not need the dr.0 -

Love this idea!!
Agree you need to try to eat more protein and fats! I have found it a much better way to avoid that shaky feeling, I still get it sometimes if I leave too long between eating, I eat a lot though : )
Do you like other nuts if not pnb? almonds (or cheese) with fruit helps even out the fat/protein/carb ratio so you don't get that sugar spike.0 -

I agree with both of these....And I love the idea of the egg whites in my oatmeal(I am not an egg lover either)...I love my oatmeal...I also add a little cinnamon and of course butter (for some fats and of course flavor)...Oatmeal keeps me full for hours - very filling!!0
