I must admit, I do find it to be a bit of a pain in the butt to enter everything I eat, and I get mad knowing I can't have something if I don't have enough calories left. BUT, it has taught me a lot and I think it is working.

I worked out pretty religiously about a year ago once I joined a gym, I woke up early three days a week (and I am NOT a morning person) to go to the gym before work. I did a pretty decent workout for about 40-50 minutes on the eliptical, treadmill, and weights each time. I stuck to it perfectly for about 6 weeks and even when I started to lag I still went pretty regularily for 5 months, but nothing was happening. I think I lost 3 pounds at the most but I seemed to keep going up and down...lose 3, gain 2, lose 4, gain 3, etc.

I wasn't really watching what I ate, but I figured working out and eating what I wanted HAD to be better than eating what I wanted and not working out at all. But since using this website I now see what I was doing wrong. Since MFP calculates your calorie deficit in order to lose weight, and then allows you to eat your calories you burn off in exercise, you're replacing your lost calories but still eating less.

So before when I was working out so hard, by not changing my eating habits I was just replacing whatever I burned off and then some. I thought I still ate the same, but since I was working out, subconsciously I probably figured it was ok to splurge now and again, but in reality I wouldn't be surprised if I was eating more than before I started working out. So it is no surprise that I killed myself at the gym for three months, lost nothing, got discouraged and gave up. I think I will have much better results now that I am using MFP. I can't wait until Thursday to weigh myself again!

  • I completely agree, several years ago, before I started university I used to be incredibly thin, but was probably really unhealthy - because I worked out loads and didn't eat very well, but then I came to uni, met my partner, whose a bit of a man mountain, and started to indulge - consequently over the last three years my weight has steadily crept up and up, until i'm almost three stone more than i was when i started . Since its my graduation year, and I have my ball soon, I brought my dress early in the hopes of being able to lose the weight - now I'm not the most disciplined of people so I find it really hard to fit in regular exercise - especially when I have millions of assignements due in, so nothings happened! I tried weight loss tablets (complete waste of money) and loads of little gimmicks none of which worked so then I figured the best thing to do was check out some healthy ways of obtaining my goal - so I found My Fitness Pal, which has helped me to think about what I'm putting into my body!

    Its fab, cos now I can actually see what Im eating I think I will be able to lose weight loads faster - the only hard thing is remembering what I've eaten, and knowing how many calories things have in - which is hard cos I do a lot of homecooking!

    But anyway, heres to MFP - lets hope this time in five weeks I'll be a happy slimmer lickle bunny who will fit into her ballgown!!!!!!!
