Low carb and fat

I just started my new low carb diet. With this, I've also noticed that my calorie intake has gone down. Excellent! But I'm concerned, according to this site my fat intake is pretty awful. Is there anything I can do about this? This is only my first week and I'm completely changing how I eat and how I view food. I'm actually feeling really good. So I just want to make sure this fat thing isn't going to get in my way for weight loss. Any suggestions? Or advice on low carb in general? Thanks so much!

there are three sources of calories - fat, carbs and protein. If you have reduced carbs then you need to increase fat (or protein) to compensate. There's a limit to how much protein we can use, so you need to customise your food goals on here to something like 10% carbs, 30% protein, 60% fat.
You're wanting to burn fat off your body so eating more isn't a problem - more fuel for the fat burning processes - as long as you have an overall deficit.0 -
Agree with Yarwell - low carb high fat all the way! Try to keep to 'good' fats, and you'll do great. I've just started this too, and I'm loving how I feel! I do miss the carbs, like I feel like something is missing from my meals, but I'm getting there!0

I would encourage you to read a scientifically based low carb book such as Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution so that you can understand just how important the fat is. Low carb AND low fat is downright dangerous. My macros are 5% carbs, 35% protein, 60% fat and I shed pounds each week while never going hungry. My doctor closely monitors my blood chemistry; all my levels are down and she couldn't be happier with my present health.
Feel free to friend me if you'd like the extra LC support.0 -
Ok that makes me feel better. I think the word "fat" just scares me haha Thank you!0

I take Alli to help with the extra fat intake. I believe through my research that fat does not do too much without a spike in Insulin levels.0

Yarwell, When I do 10% carb it puts me at like 30g a day. I really don't think I can do that. I'm at 30g per meal right now per dietitian. Is it alright if I do like 20, 20, 60%? Sorry like I said I'm really new at this. I just don't want to mess up on the basics.0

the macro guidelines here are adjustable to what you want. this site goes for heavy carb and low fat low protein by default
cant inagine why unless they are following the government guidelines which are a recipe for obesity (imo)0 -
Aim for the healthy fats if possible.
Aim for short BUT intense period to achieve weight loss THEN maintain with a well balanced food intake.

If 10% gives 30g and you want to be at 90g then it needs to be something like 30,30,40 or 30,20,50 depending on the protein recommended.0 -

Keep reminding yourself, DIETARY FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT! I must say that a hundred times a day when I hear someone complaining how "fattening" something is. They always throw me a shocked look and then remember how much weight I've lost and promptly shut up :laugh:0
