I'm new to this whole dieting thing and I made the awful decision of starting my diet right when grad party season started.
So how do you guys cope with not constantly eating/overeating?

Just came home from one of those. It's not easy let me tell ya! I tried to take very small portions of everything that I liked when I filled my plate rather than get heaping amounts.....and go back for more of the stuff I couldn't fit on the plate. LOL I still ate WAY more than normal but probably not as much as I used to. Also, I ate very small meals in the morning today so I would have more room on my calorie log once I got to the party.0

Exercise earlier in the day, eat lighter throughout the day leading up to the party and eat something before you go.0

Oh.....and make use of the volleyball court, horseshoe pits, pond/pool....etc to burn some of it off after dinner.0

I have the same problem with church potlucks and summer cookouts.

If it's a restaurant, skip dessert, most appetizers, the bread basket, butter sauces, and cream-based salad dressings. Grilled, roasted, or poached is better than fried.
If it's a buffet or barbecue, don't eat more than one plateful of food.
Fill up on salad first so you have less room for fattening things.0 -
Went to one yesterday, I just fit it into my eating. Thought I would totally overdo it, but I didn't. Even had my first pc. of cake in a while and was way under my calories yesterday. Just take smaller portions and play some corn hole lol0
