Depends on your weight, height, average heart rate, and a few other factors. Buy a heart rate monitor that comes with a "calories burned" function!0

well im 5"7 and weight 141lbs, i just want to know a round number for now0

Google it! You will get a lot of hits. According to this website, for the average sized person it is about 3 calories per jack

i tired goggleing it but they need the minutes. and i don't know how long it was1

I have read in several different articles that 1 jumping = 1/2 calorie, so 1000 = 500 calories. This was stated saying "1000 jumping jacks a day x 7 day = 7000 jumping jacks a week = 1 pound of fat burned".1

Oh that sounds like a challenge. I think I'll put my HRM on tomorrow and do 1000 jumping jacks to test.0

Two pounds burned. One pound = 3500 calories0 -

Hoping to come back to this thread for some info.0

If 1000 jumping jacks = 500 calories, then 7000 jumping jacks = 3500 calories, no? So... 1 lb?0 -
yeahhh, if its true0

If I did 1 jumping jack every second, it would only take 16-17 minutes to do 1000... That's going to burn about 200 calories (MAX) for me...0
-
mrsbigmack is correct, exactly.
2 jumping jacks=1 calorie burned
1000 jumping jacks=500 calories burned
1 pound fat=3500 calories=7000 jumping jacks
Henceforth 1000 jumping jacks a day for 7 days will cause a one pound loss!0 -
next time record your time. the time is the important factor here, assuming you're going to repeat this 1000 jumping jack workout for some reason. Log it as aerobics or calisthenics and for however minutes you did it.
That's assuming you're going to do this again. If you're only doing this one time, then put in 200-300 cals and move on.0 -
I do this exercise 5 times a week, twice in a row. so that's 40 minutes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRDmKd5G8m4
I am able to do 30 jumping jacks in 20 seconds, 60 in one minute (2x 10 seconds rest). So that means that I'm doing about 2400 in 40 minutes, and in 5 days I do 120000.
But I have no idea how many calories I'm burning, but looks like a lot to me, cause at the end of the exercise I'm sweating like a pig!1 -
I'm 220, 5,7" , I've just done 1000 jumping jacks with the aid of a HRM.
I do a jumping jack a second and I do 30, rest for 30.
In the 33 mins it took to do them my HRM tells me I burnt 380!
This 1000=500 calculation seems very off to me!0 -
dammit, necro.0

The compendium of physical activities gives it a METs value of 8, so 8 times BMR. For me that would be around 8 calories a minute or 240 calories per half hour. Also not close to 500 (assuming it'd take me around 30 minutes, like it did you). So yeah, seems high.

I am not sure why people cannot give a direct answer.
You burn 30 calories if you do 100 jumping jacks.
Do 35 jumping jacks, stop for 1/2 minute and repeat twice more.0 -
Nobody gave that direct answer because it's incorrect.0

this s so confusing. jumping jack is fun, i am loving it but yeah it's hard. i should be losing a lot more but same rule applies i guess the less you weigh, the less calories you loose. i am still below 500jj. don't know when i will reach 1000 jj. still feels like supppperr difficult on my calfs if i do it continuously. by the way who watches mintues while doing them. i cannot do them for like 10mins or so continuously. spreading them throughout the day. will that help. i already feel pain. for sure am slow than all of you doing 1000 of them in a day.... boohoooo :-'(0

Did you really have to resurrect a 2-year old thread full of horrible information?3
