Should I exercise every day?

I am fairly new to diet and exercise and am looking for some advice. Right now I go for a daily two mile walk and put in about 40 to 60 minutes a day on a stationary bike burning between 400 - 600 calories between the two activities. I notice some people have "exercise-free" days and I was wondering whether I should follow suit and have one or two rest days each week. I don't want to do that if it is going to lengthen my weight loss progress but I also want to do this the right way. I am eating most of my exercise calories back mainly because I'm always hungry.

From my personal experience, if you are exercising vigorously, you will fare better in the long run to take a 'rest' day or to lighten a day or two in your weekly regiment. When you exercise for a continuous cycle, your body does not have time to re cooperate and gain all of the positive outputs of your exercise routine. For example, you gain muscle when your body starts to repair the muscles that you worked out. Take it from me, your body needs at least a day of lower intensity. During basketball season we trained every day except Sunday, and I would up with three ripped ligaments in my ankle. Let your body catch up a day or so, it protects against injuries and hitting a plateau. Good luck and I hope this helps! :)

My past experiences that isn't neccesary at this stage of journey. Additionally day "off" doesn't mean you forget everything you did on your workout days. I wouldn't even call it diet. It's more like changing your lifestyle if you want longterm success you have to change your habits and maintaining two workouts a day seven days a week to me is just plain tough.

I wouldn't workout anymore than 5 times a week. Four is even ideal as well. I would say on at least one of your off days plan an activity that gets you moving. Clean the house with the radio on, or take a walk downtown, hike, wash the car, etc. The point is get stay active.

Sensible eating, active lifestyle, positive attitude and committment to change is how I think you should view your new way of life.

    Best wishes
