try a piece of fruit. You can also drink more water. That is what usually works for me.

Being hungry is a normal part of deficit eating.

Edited to add the above is in response to your thread title - Am I not eating enough? Too little info to tell.

A hand full of nuts (fat yes, but good fat) Maybe a boiled egg. Some fat and protein will hold you better than sugar in fruit so if you have fruit, have something with it too.. Maybe you need to have a bigger breakfast, however I am a terrible judge of food amounts cause I do eat a lot. But your breakfast sounds tiny :( and I know it wouldn't be substantial enough for me.

I try drinking lots of water with each meal..helps alot...so try drink 10 oz of water with each meal 3 before 4 during and 3 after...most people aren't drinking enough anyway, so most people mix the stomach's signal for water with, signal for needing more food.

I usually drink water when I am starving and it isn't time to eat again, it tricks my tummy for a little bit. Depending on the size of your cream of wheat you might want to add a little something more to your breakfast to help hold you over. Fresh veggies are low in calories and while not fabulously filling they make good snacks.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I am sure the first few days is going to be tough, I am drinking lots of water and green tea. I might try adding something to my breakfast.

Really? I must be doing it wrong then.

OP definitely add something to your breakfast. Without knowing your stats it's impossible to tell you if you're eating enough but I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say you're under eating. You don't need to starve yourself to lose weight.

    Add protein to your breakfast.

If you have a blender, just for a week, try this:

    2 cups (16 oz) 2% milk (I use lactaid)
2 packets NO SUGAR ADDED Carnation instant breakfast (chocolate)
2 scoops Super Whey protein (Body Fortress) (chocolate, strawberry or chocolate peanut butter)
    Ice

This makes about 28 oz (plus or minus the ice) of chocolatey goodness (satisfies my sweet tooth), but mostly, it gives you vitamins and minerals and 52g of protein. I make it before I leave for work, sip on it as I'm driving to work and once I get to work, and I'm generally not hungry til 12:30 or 1pm. If you find yourself getting hungry earlier than you're ready to eat lunch, you can add a banana or just more ice to the blender, which will increase the volume of the "shake", and tide you over longer.

Try it for a week. If you don't get good results, you may need to go a wrap with turkey sausage, salsa, and eggs or something with more "oomph". But I've been eating this shake every week day morning, and I've lost 10 pounds this month.

    Good luck!

I'm rarely hungry unless it has simply been too long since a meal. A lot depends on what you're eating and when...but eating at s deficit doesn't have to mean you feel starving all the time.

Drink 2 full glasses of water. Usually curbs my hunger a bit.

How many calories do you average per day? Are you eating enough protein?

I drink a glass of water before every meal. Sometimes thirst actually registers as hunger - So this may curb some of your appetite.

I don't think a bowl of cream of wheat and 2 string cheese is too little food for breakfast. But if you really want to satiate your hunger in the morning, get a lot of protein in rather than carbohydrates. It will keep you full for a longer amount of time. One protein shake in the morning (400 calories with 2 scoops of chocolate powder, 8oz of milk, and a serving of peanut butter) keeps me full until lunch.

This, we can't tell until we know what you are eating.

Also, what is your current weight, height and your exercise program.

It's sometimes hard for people to recognize if it's hunger or thirst! I wouldn't recommend eating anything more than what you have said. Just try drinking more water!

Based on your stats, i would suggest 1600 calories if you are sedentary. If you exercise, it would be higher. Your estimated bmr is almost 1700 calories alone. Eat below is can cause your metabolism to slow. Additionally, what exercise are you doing? Any chance you are weight training? If not, i would recommend starting. That is where you would see fat loss the most.

You get an early start so I think you could safely throw another healthy snack in there :)

Thank you! I've been thinking that raising my intake might be a good idea. 1200 isn't much at all :( Right now, I am not exercising. I am starting back to the gym next week, my cousin is going to train me.

Eating at a deficit does not require you to starve! You are seriously under eating. Do you know what your BMR and TDEE is? i eat at a deficit and Im not starving at all.. EVER!! and I still see the scale move.
Check out http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ and figure out your numbers and go from there. Ill be happy to help if you need any.

Exactly. People generally end up feeling hungry all the time because they are eating a too big a deficit initially. If you're used to overeating and suddenly cut your calories in half, of course you're going to feel hungry constantly. Sometimes people need to gradually work toward creating a deficit.

Definitely re-do your calorie allowance on MFP. I started at 216 in January, and fell into the trap of doing the 1200 calorie diet. It worked for a little while, then I stalled out. Currently I'm down 26, to 189. Eating more is keeping me happy - and the scale moving in the right direction!

If you want, for now, do a custom goal of 1600 calories (35% carbs, 40% protein and 25% fats). When you start training, increase calories to 1800-2000. Make sure you cousin gives you 3 days of weight training and the rest can be cardio/piliates/yoga. The WT is where you will see the greatest fat loss.
