My bf and I are trying to We keep a 4 month supply of dry goods on us at all times and have a life gaurenteed non electric water filter system. We live in a city currenty but are saving to purchase a mountainous, wooded and lake property to make a self sustaining cabin on. Its a huge dream for both of us and I hope we can accomplish it before it is really needed. We are both fortunate to have rather well paying jobs, so its not too far fetched for a 23 and 25 year old couple
I recently passed my FAC (im canadian) and the bf is going to teach me to shoot and hunt properly.
We also have a stockpile of seeds and Ive always been ibterested in growing my own food.
In regards to fitness, its been a motivater of mine as well. You need to be tough to survive in the bush.
Sorry for the mess of topics, I have a head cold and this is all I can manage conewhat cohereantly lol0 -
That's awesome! Not the head cold part… summer colds are the worst.
If there are more we should start a group. Motivation and information.0 -
If we can get some more replies, a group would be awesome. I dont discuss my ambitions often in real life. Most people think Im crazy and parinoid. Its overwhelming the amount of people who rely 100% on stores for food and their survival. Im unhappily one of them currently haha
We go camping often throughout the summer, so we can scout out prime locations to live. He doesnt want to go under 50 acres but I think 30 or so would be sufficient. We are focused on central British Columbia, in the Caribou County region.
What steps are you taking to prep?0 -
I agree completely that most sheepole don't get it.
I live in Indiana and have a work history of military, law enforcement, and firefighting/ EMS. My food preps arn't great, but tactically I'm pretty well prepared. Since I live in a semi-rural area on a lake our biggest concern is two legged predators. I started a group with family friends and neighbors for mutual support. The economy sucks here, but eventually I'd like to move to a more rural area.0 -
I am no one to talk much about our preps in a public forum. Heck I am sure my neighbors don't even know. My family has always been prepared for many different situations.0
-
Imma help yall out
Bump0 -
If one had a cache of food and whatnot, one is probably better off maintaining OPSEC and not risking anyone finding out about it.
People will do crazy things when their kids are starving to death, you know?
Edit: ESPECIALLY IF ONE HAS A PHOTO OF HIMSELF AND HAS HIS CITY ON HIS PROFILE. Jeez. :grumble:0 -

Yeah, no real details. Opsec is important. It's a wager between networking and security.0 -

One would have to find said cache, good luck to anyone whom tries lol.0 -

One could just murder the whole family and then bother to look. One may not find it, but one still killed you... um, one.
I lean more toward the paranoid lol Just sayin.0 -
I hope that one catches me off guard, because I don't have money to send his family flowers.0

What's a prepper?
As I don't know what it is, I'm clearly NOT one... but I always like to learn new teminology0 -

The term usually refers to someone whom feels that it's prudent to prepare for a possible emergency situation. Anything from Tornados and earthquakes to financial collapse & nuclear or biological warfare. It used to just be called living, but people have become dependent on the government and expect it to always function properly.0 -
Im not concerned with anyone finding my city stash, and will be even less concerned when I move to the wilds of BC  Good friggin' luck finding me!
We also would like to own a good set of guard dogs, and Ive always been partial to Rotties. We may end up with a Newfoundland dog though, he likes their water prowess. With the hours and erratic shift work we both do right now, dogs are not an option. They would never receive the love or discipline needed. The two cats we have right now can be ferocious but only if the enemy is a cardboard box :bigsmile:0 -

Cool, thanks for the definition.
Definitely not me - I did toy with filling up a water bottle before I go to bed because they are predicing big and nasty storms tonight - but I'll probably forget. Better hope I get squashed right away in the disaster because I don't want to have to fight your dogs for anything!
I probably would be a little more prepared if I lived up north in the cyclone regions though.... maybe....0 -

You don't have to con dogs, you only have to poison them.
I would also like to get some dogs, more for your run of the mill home invader than any kind of disaster. But then you have to prep for the animal too. I like to think that if my children are in danger I wouldn't be the only one trying to destroy the threat, I wouldn't mind a 100 pound dog having my back.0 -
yep!.
Let's just say I know a guy who had a youtube channel pertaining to such a topic.0 -

I only mean this reply to be informative.
One of the reasons why preppers encourage others to prepare is because in times of emergency we want personnel working on fixing the problems, not bailing out every Tom, **** and Harry because they didn't think to have a case of water handy, know what I mean?
The CDC recommends that you have 72 hour emergency supplies so that they can focus on things other than you. That doesn't mean you have to be prepared for a full on Zombie Apocalypse, but 72 hours worth of water, food and medication is a good start. A way to heat your food (or yourself according to your climate) and filter your water is good, too. Personal protection. Emergency candles. Batteries and a radio. Easy and inexpensive. If you aren't taking care of yourself then you are taking precious resources that could be desparately needed somewhere else.
Unfortunately, we Americans have been raised with the idea that should something happen the government and emergency services will arrive promptly to help us. There are about a million scenarios where that may not be possible.0 -

Having EMS skills are going to be a huge asset to you and your family. That is another area of mine that needs improvement. We have medical supplies on hand but neither one of us have any real training in first aid.0 -

And military training!
He sounds like the guy to team up with lol0 -
After Hurricane IKE, I realized I was better off than most people, but I had to make some adjustments. It was a good practice run. However, I'm not going to discuss it in an open forum. Sorry
You've got my picture and hometown, good luck trying to find my supplies0 -
I'd prep with a food and water stash if I had the money for it. If I had the money I'd also have a secret shelter built under my house. Alas, if doomsday comes we will just have to wing it and find a cool group of people like on The Colony.0

I know a certain dog training prepper who did a series of videos about K9s and prepping; from breed choices, to pros and cons. There is a lot more involved to yielding the best results than one may think.0 -
So which of you guys am I going to see on the next Doomsday Preppers episode?0
-
yep!.
Let's just say I know a guy who had a youtube channel pertaining to such a topic.
If you are, by any random chance, Sustenanceandcovering, you are my hero! :flowerforyou:
He is my favorite youtube prepper, although I dont agree with his religious views he sometimes discusses.
Silverfuturist is also a great youtuber0 -

Bag of beans is $1. Case of water is $3. Pick up one of each each shopping trip. You don't have to be set for life or even like what you're eating, you only need to have something to put in your face lol
I started getting into preparation when my kids were born. I would hear about disasters and look at them and almost panic at the thought of watching them starve. I made it a priority.0 -

LOL... nope. There are some REALLY good prepping channels that I subscribed to. I took my channel down last year for personal reasons (over 100 vids), and have since moved to a new home.
Southerprepper1 has an awesome channel, and the guy knows a ton about just about everything.0
