Hi all ... from a newbie :)

Hello all,

I came across this website by chance and joined up today, so far - I really like it!

Basically, the whole story about me wanting to lose weight is not only so I'm healthier and whatnot, but it's to be a supportive brother to my sister who has dilated cardiomyopathy and had taken the initiative to lose weight and get healthier following her having a stroke at the the start of this year. She's been going to a specialised gym for patients referred there and as a support, i've been going to my local gym so we can exchange our stories about how we feel and generally it's going really well, also we went swimming together yesterday and it was really good, we did an hour in the pool and it was really good!

Also, more about me - I'm Robbie :) I'm 20 and have just finished university with a degree in performing arts (music major), I suffer from temporal lobe epilepsy and it's a common factor thought from my doctor and parents that it could be caused due to me being, in the technical term "morbidly obese". I want to lose weight and have the initiative to because I want seizures to stop, I generally want to feel confident about myself and to just be a little more active.

So, in a nutshell that's me, hello all and well, let's just say i'm pretty excited right now!! :D

    Hi Robbie. Welcome at MFP!

I´m new too, only 3 days in. Like you I´m very positive about this. My antidepressive medication makes me gaine weight, so I have to do something about it. I´m slightly obese, but have to work at it to stop it from becomming worse. I´m 38 years old and from denmark. I´m early retired due to my bipolar condition. Therefore I have a some what inactive live. Do some volunteer work a couple of times a week and walking our (I´m married) two dogs. I just started to try to run a little. My condition is awfull, but I´m working at it. My goal is to run 3 times a week and to- by time- achieve to run 2,5 miles in a row.

Feel free to add me if you like. Anyway, I hope you will achieve your goals! You just go for it! And it´s great, that you have decided to change your life. Go for it!

Just wanted to say you are inspirational & should be really proud of yourself for the way you are supporting your sister & that you are trying to help yourself - good for you huni

There are many people on here trying to lose weight & get healthier for medical reasons, so I am sure you will find a whole load of support if you ever need it.

Good luck & feel free to add if you ever want some encouragement etc - take care

    Welcome to MFP Robbie
You've done a great thing for your sister and you as you can share your journey. My brother was instrumental in having me join MFP in January.
    Congratulations on your degree!
    My experience so far:
    - it's all math - once you set your website goals, you will lose
    - log it, no matter what (some log in before they eat to ensure that they stay within the daily limit)
    - chips are deadly sorry to say :(
    - if you are over one day, just be more careful the next
    - the Community can be a bit quirky at times, but most people are gems
    - if you feel you need to eat more, up the exercise
    Good luck!

Hi there, Im new too, this is my first post but I have lost 2kg since I started tracking twelve days ago. I too gain weight because of a medical condition/medication and often suffer from lack of motivation while i pile on the pounds, but at the moment I'm "in the zone", doing spinning, swimming, weight training and walking. I completed a 10k race last week (90 mins). Would love to make new friends here so please post back....Claire
