My husband of 20 years has been a fitness buff for years. I know it always bothered him that I wasnt at all interested but thank goodness he never said anything about it because I probably would have never started out of spite. I am so thankful for a partner that is into health and nutrition because it adds accountability and there are no temptations of bad food in our house. I have a friend and even my daughter that their other halves not only dont support but try to sabotage their efforts. Just curious about some of the other people on here what their experiences are

I'm happy you have a great support system & your husband is encouraging!!!!!
I unfortunately had to learn not to rely on my family for support, but instead to lean on my friends (the ones who are not trying to sabotage me, that is) & my personal trainer. My trainer has been especially supportive; even though yes, it's his job. He's aware of my situation at home & makes me text him each night with the calories I've eaten & exercise I did & will always return an encouraging comment.0 -

My wife always seems to sabotage me... the other night after a good day, she says "I'm hungry for pizza". It was 9:45 on a Sunday night! I asked her 'are you sure you want to eat PIZZA this late?'
We have a pantry, and two refrigerators STUFFED with food, and she says she can't find anything to eat. I call her the world's most pickiest eater which I think may tick her off. I also try to motivate her towards exercise. It has done nothing but not only backfire, but gets ME off track. I have been stuck at 230# for 2 months! (Fluctuating between 228-235)0 -
My husband was always one that worked out and I, like you, never was interested. Now he is my biggest "cheerleader", along with our kids. He always encourages and pushes me through our workouts. Along the way, we have inspired many other couples to join in the healthy and fit lifestyle.
You are one lucky gal!!0 -

It may just hit her one day like it did me Phil, I sure hope so!0 -
LOL! That does suck! You would think friends & family would be supportive & helpful, not jealous & tryiing to interfere.
I have two friends (who together weigh 98 lbs) recently telling me that I AM allowed to cheat every once in a while & it won't hurt anything. My response - "Yes, while it's true I would be able to do that, and over the course of a week, it wouldn't affect very much; however, if I have the willpower to stay away from junk foods and have no desire for them, then I'm going to continue what I'm doing now & not eat them." I've worked too hard to get here (all those blasted jump squats...) & I still have 54 lbs to ge before I get to my goal. This one friend is always trying to get me to eat dessert when we go out & I keep telling her no. She still doesn't get it.0 -
Like PhilOhio, my hubby tries to sabotage me. And its funny because he will be the first to say a girl's butt is too big. But I don't think he tries to sabatoge me because he doesn't want me to be thin, he just doesn't want to feel guilty for having no self-control himself.
I have tried standing by and doing my own thing and being strong in spite of him. Most days I am pretty good at it. In the past week though, I decided that this is no longer good enough for me. He has had a horrible attitude and it has affected our marriage and I think it mostly has to do with him having a negative self-image. So I decided to take it upon myself to push him. I pushed him to start the C25K. We did our second day yesterday and he whined the whole time. But I think deep down, he felt good about it later. He watches me log my food and I know he is paying attention. I haven't pushed him to start logging yet, but I do tell him sometimes now that he doesn't need that bowl of cereal and that box of wheat thins after dinner.0 -
Mine is half and half. :P He's supportive in that he supports me being active etc. He's unsupportive in that he asks me to make cookies and orders take out sometimes :P. He goes in spurts of wanting to eat healthy though, and even has started talking about exercise lately so maybe I can persuade him.
I don't really bug him about it for the most part though, I figure if it's something he wants to do then he will, if not he doesn't need to hear anything about it from me. He will eat healthy if I cook healthy, so we've done well with that.

Just focus on yourself - the foods & snacks you want to eat, and your own exercise plan. This is what I've had to do. I make sure my own foods are in the house and make sure I get my workouts done without regard to family members. Granted my kids are older teens & not small anymore. Just tell your wife that you are going to go do your workout, then go do it by yourself. Eventually, it might motivate her to join you.0
