Tight muscles under my chin

I've noticed recently that when I tilt my head back (as in looking at the sky), the muscles/tendons/whatever under my chin are pulled very tight, and I can only tilt my head so far before it because downright painful. I've tried doing stretching exercises (neck rolls, etc.) and it's loosening ever so slowly.
Am I odd that those muscles are so tight?? I've never heard of it before and when I mention it to friends they look at me oddly. (Okay, that part isn't all that new, but you know what I mean.) The point is, does anyone else deal with this??

Really? I'm the only one who's ever dealt with this? Huh...0

Apparently you are.0

I'm coming off a neck injury where the muscles would spasm, and tighten everything up, but my problems were more with neck rotation. Pinched nerve, numb arm, not fun at all. You probably want to get it checked out by a physical therapist.0

I dont have that problem, mine is that the skin under my chin/neck is loose and makes me look as though i have a very large neck. So there are excerises I do to tighten it up.
The one exersice is similiar to what you are describing when you look up. I tilt my head back towards the sky and stick my tounge out as if I am trying to touch my nose with my tounge. Hold for 10sec.
Then while your head is still back, point your tounge down as if you are trying to reach your chin. Hold for 10sec.
You will feel the muscles in your neck tighten up nicely. Although i admit if anyone see's you doing this exercise it looks a bit embarassing. LOL
I know this isnt in answer to your question, but it reminded me of the exercises I do.0 -
Do you do a lot of ab crunches?0

Not if I can help it. :blushing:1

Was just a thought since poor form during crunches can strain those muscles along with your neck0

Was this ever answered? I'm having the same thing. I've had issues with my jaw being tight, my dentist had a mouth guard molded for me (which made it worse) and I just stopped using it. I am just getting over some sinus issues and I've been doing the Ab Fix from 21 Day Fix, a few times a week (I know my form is much better now than in the beginning). I won't be able to see ENT until next month (yay, military enforced healthcare).3

Tight muscles under the chin could be a sign your body is fighting an infection. Jaw soreness could be a sign of a heart condition. I wouldn't really worry about it too much though. Just try to take care of yourself, and you should be fine.2

Did you ever find an answer to this? Mine is really sore! It's been ages and not gone away yet, feels like a hard double chin, it's definitely muscle but it's so weird!3
