Diabetic friendly meals

                    I am a horrible diabetic.  I am trying to eat right, but the temptation for something yummy and good is hard to resist.  Does anyone have any ideas on tricks or recipes I can try?  I have to watch my salt also because of my high blood pressure.

            Have you looked at any Diabetic friendly cookbooks or cooking magazines? My local Wal-Mart carries them. Have you been to a nutritionist? They can be helpful as well. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic, diagnosed about 8 yrs ago as an adult. It's a learning process for sure, but is very doable. Good luck!
 (There are a TON of sugar-free cookies, candy, etc. out there if you really can't live without them, however, I don't like artificial sweeteners.)0

            My husband is type 2 diabetic controlled with meds. Since I'm doing all the cooking and meal planning I have relied heavily on the diabetic cooking books available at the grocery store or book store. When I buy a new one I have him mark each recipe that looks good and that gives me an idea of what to prepare. Since most of them make multiple servings, I divide it into individual containers marking each one with the calorie and carb amount. He can then grab what he wants for lunch the next day. His doctor recommended some sort of protein with each meal so I have stocked up on string cheese. We are currently in a three week class with a nutritionist. Since we are both wanting to lose weight, the nutritionist divided his total calories and carbs into three meals. It makes meal planning so much easier.

 Question so what does your husband do to help himself? It sounds like you are controlling his diet not him. Just wondering.0

            My wife and I are both diabetic. Bread, pasta and rice are the big three to cut down on. Everyone thinks it's all about sugar, but it's not, it's all about total carbs. Look into any recipes designed for Paleo, Atkins, or other low-carb eating regimes and you'll find a wealth of tasty recipes.0

            No, I don't control it. I just give him better options to take to work. He had it long before we met and managed it himself nicely. When he lost a lot of weight his numbers went down and so did his meds. Unfortunately, the nutritionist here thinks everyone should be on insulin injections. He doesn't want to go that route yet so anything I can do to help is a plus. Besides, since I moved and have not been able to find a job, the least I can do is cook right. It helps both of us. I, too, am eating healthier.0

            I'm type 1.
 I have a lot of salad and a piece of meat for dinner meals.
 I do all my baking without sugar, and try and switch white flour out for wholemeal or ground up oats.
 I have fruit and veges for snacks. I have found being on here really helps. I load everything before I eat it and look at the carbs and sugar values, then work out my insulin from that0
