Trying again...

I joined the site a while ago and gave up after a few months. I feel like I am ready to give it another try and need all the support I can get. I don't have a lot of encouragement at home, so I am turning to the site for my encouragement and motivation. I would love to meet people who can help to encourage me and give me ideas on how to get started. Thanks so much!

It feels so good to know I am not alone...what kind of things have you been doing to make you successful so far? I tried walking for an hour everyday last time for a month and only lost 2 pounds. It was so awful. I was discouraged right away.0

Hi, and welcome (back!) to THE best site on the web! :flowerforyou:
Between the easy to use food counter (which by the way is SUCH an eye opener!) and all the wonderfully supportive members, you WILL be able to lose the weight that you want to, AND, it'll "almost" be easy doing it!
I recommend logging ALL your foods BEFORE you have them, rather than later, as it tends to lead to better food choices. (not to mention you'll know if you've got enough numbers left to have a night time snack, like I ALWAYS try to do!) Some people also like to weigh and measure some things, such as meats, rather than just estimating and possibly being WAY off! :noway:
Don't go making the mistake that if you have LOTS of numbers left at the end of the day that you'll lose even faster, because that DOESN'T happen. Feel free to read any info about the site in the "help" section at the top of the home page. And also, under "all topics", then "general", and check out the first few threads. They'll really help you understand how MFP works.
Before coming here, I had tried just about EVERYTHING out there, including hypnosis, TWICE, and nothing really worked until MFP!
Also, drink LOTS of water, it REALLY DOES help! :drinker:
As far as exercise goes, it doesn't always have to be awful. For my exercise, I walk almost every day, (weather permitting!) I also dance to a fast oldies CD that my husband made up of all my favorite old songs. (Like "Love Shack", Wild, Wild West", "Mony, Mony", "Footloose", and "Gloria")
It's free, (unlike a gym!) fun, and I can even watch tv at the same time, so I never get bored!
I also have Wii Fit, and jog to that, which is a lot of fun, and easy too!
So, to make a LONG story short, make good food choices, eat in moderation, get some exercise, and you WILL lose the weight that you want to!0 -

I would be happy to be an accountability partner with you. I do not have any help or encouragement at home either and have come to realize that I will have to be accountable for my results, good or bad, anyway. For the past 20 years I have used that as an excuse, but I finally became unhappy enough to make some changes for myself. The motivation is the hardest part for me. I do well with my exercise, 99% of the time. I just made it a commitment to work-out every day, no matter what. My eating is much more difficult for me. I have bought "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" an ebook by Tom Venuto. It has inspired me greatly and I have joined their "inner-circle" which has lots of downloads that I listen to on my ipod all day to keep me motivated. I'm proud that you are going to try again and I know that you will be successful as long as you make that a commitment and have the belief that you are able to do it!0

i know exactly how you feel. I don't get the support i need at home too ... temptations everywhere, and although my hubby is exercising with me, he doesn't count the calories fo food he eat, unlike me.
MPF is awesome, reading the threads in the message boards tells you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and there are many of us out there who face similar situations. Hence, it's easy to get support.
Get a buddy who's weightloss goal is similar to yours, tag team with em, challenge each other, do the weekly weigh ins, eat right, encourage each other .... and ultimately, you will achieve success.
NEVER GIVE UP. In fact, since joining MPF, that phrase have been permanently removed from my mind.
Good luck!0 -
Good luck M. I know we have all tried so many "diets". Someone recently pointed out that the first 3 letters of diet are "die". They all set us up for failure. Think of the healthy life style you are gaining, and every pound is another week added on.
Best wishes,
