Polar ft4 said my Heart Rate was 200+ today

Can someone tell me if this is maybe a battery issue. I use my HRM for swimming. Yesterday I noticed I swam the same laps in the same time as always - however I had burned much less calories. I thought maybe I was reaching a plateau. but today at the end of my swim it started reading 232. this is crazy. I think the highest I have ever had was 180 and I thought I was dying. I wasn't even winded this morning. I am now thinking yesterday's numbers were incorrect as well and there is something wrong with my polar. anyone had a similar issue. thank you in advance.

    I'm interested to see if anyone knows. I had the same issue last week twice. I'm doing Insanity, but I still don't think it was accurate. When I stopped and fiddled w/ the chest strap a bit, it dropped back to 170s-180s. And not a count-down drop- just 228 and then 176. Made me wonder about battery issue too. Hope someone can help.

    here is the response from Polar: it makes sense it happened on Tuesday and our pool is cleaned on Monday so they probably added chlorine. good to know.

    When measuring heart rate in water, you may experience interference for the
    following reasons:

    - Pool water with high chlorine content and seawater are very conductive.
    The electrodes of the transmitter may short-circuit, preventing ECG signals
    from being detected by the transmitter.

    - Jumping into water or strenuous muscle movement during competitive
    swimming may shift the transmitter to a location on the body where ECG
    signals cannot be picked up.

    - The ECG signal strength is individual and may vary depending on the
    individual’s tissue composition. Problems occur more frequently when
    measuring heart rate in water.

    by the way. Polar called to follow up. they said I can brush the sensors with a toothbrush and wollite and that will help. also you can put the strap in the washing machine. no softener. brushing the sensors with wollite really worked.
