Trackers for Calories Burned

Can anyone recommend a good way to get an accurate read of calories burned, in better correlation to your weight and such? Im a stay at home mom with a very limited income and I've checked out things like fitbit but $100+ isn't gonna work right now! I've checked out some iPhone apps but some numbers seem whacky. What is the "formula"? Thanks!

There isn't one, it's too individual. Cals burned is based largely on intensity, which varies person to person and exercise to exercise. If I were you, I'd either buy a used HRM, use it for a few months to get a feel for my burns, then resell it (net cost to you would be negligible). Or I'd try to find a friend with one who would let me borrow it periodically.0
