Meat.
The more lean. The more protein/cal.
I'm taking a WILD GUESS by your username, that this isn't the answer you wanted.
Tempeh has the highest for you, in that case, I think.0 -
eggs, greek yogurt, lean meats, kashi go lean cereal ( as far as cereals go)0
-
My diet is for the most part vegetarian and i get most my protein from egg whites and salmon. Along with dairy and skim milk, i meet all my protein requirements. It's a lot more difficult if you are vegan =/ but I'm sure its doable, i just don't know and can't provide any further information there.0

vegan hmm
tofu
sprouts - like alfafa sprouts
spinach
pea shoots0 -
TVP
Beans of many sorts0 -
Beans! Black beans are awesome and tasty too!0

TUNA.
This is probably the best nutritional bang for your buck. a little goes a long way in terms of protein.0 -
eggs, meat, fish, cheese, cottage cheese, greek yoghurt, quark, peanuts, beans, pulses, nuts0
-
I use a protein powder, and it gets me almost halfway to my goal. Then I throw in tofu, crumbles, meatlessballs, tofurkey, or soy milk... any number of things. I would really look into a protein powder, though.0
-
quinoa is full of it0
-
sorry, just saw you were vegan - what about a soy protein shake? and obv nuts, beans etc0

Try quinoa. It is one of the "ancient grains" and has lots of protien. In addition it is a complete protien meaning it has all 9 essential amino acids. Good luck -0

You are welcomed to look at my diary, for the most part I think I do well with protein...I do eat a lot of greek yogurt, protein powder, beans, nuts, tofu and cheese!0

I'm a veggie and I eat a lot of tofu, beans, cottage cheese, feta cheese, and protein powder. I also started to add chia seeds to just about everything.0

cottage cheese
beans
eggs

quinoa
but if you are vegan some of those are out........
Arbonne makes a protein shake that packs 20G of vegan protein, I like the vanilla0 -
Meat, eggs, Cheese, cottage cheese, nuts & beans0

Per 100 calories, broccoli has more protein than chicken.0
-
hey, had a nosy at your diary - you do do dairy so try cottage cheese.
after the gym i have this with berries, oats and honey - its gorgeous. you could try this with quark also (they have this in morrisons - a little like 0% greek yogurt but nicer)
apple and peanut butter is another nice snack.
feel free to nosy at my diary - sorry in advance for all the meat in there.0 -
Aaaactualy, her profile says she was vegan but is no longer. I posted a similar questiona few weeks ago and learned that shrimp has the best calorie to protein ratio. Other lean cuts of meat like chicken breast are also very high. Some varieties of greek yogurt and cottage cheese are also very high non-meat sources.
Beans and quinoa have protein, but they are rather inferior compared to many other sources. More like carbs that happen to provide protein as well.0 -

there are 11 essential amino acids and 11 non-essential amino acids0 -

again? really? how much is that in gramms?0 -
I noticed that Chobani yogurt packs 14 grams of protein in their 6 oz. containers! Pretty darn good!0

Per 100 calories, broccoli has more protein than chicken.
Uh, what?
Not sure if trolling, or just bad at math.
Just in case,
100cal of broccoli has 8g of protein. 100cal of chicken breast has 17-18g of protein.
Also Quinoa does have quality protein, but not very much of it. About 4g/100 calories.
1 protein = 4 calories.
100calories in chicken breast = 72 calories from protein
100 calories in broccoli = 32 calories from protein
Quinoa? Only 16 calories per 100 calories are from protein.0 -
Per 100 calories, broccoli has more protein than chicken.
Are you sure?
Calories Carbs Fat Protein
Broccoli - Raw, 300 g 102 20 1 8
Chicken - Breast, meat only, cooked, roasted, 60 g 99 0 2 19
This is using the FDA values found here on MFP, and I even gave broccoli a 3 calorie advantage.0 -
I'm sure I read something about garden peas having more protein in than meat....I find this odd0
-
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this before but what about bulgur wheat?
It's so versatile and full of goodness.0 -

Neither high protein or low calorie. A 140 calorie serving has about 5 grams of protein (versus 20g+ protein in the same calories worth of chicken). The OP is looking for low cal/high protein. As far as that goes, bulgur is pretty meh.0 -
Thanks for your ideas! And no I'm not a vegan anymore - but I do still eat a lot of vegan/vegetarian food so it was good to see the meat alternatives0

Per 100 calories, broccoli has more protein than chicken.
I think that eating a palm sized portion of meat would be much easier than blending, juicing, etc. a tree sized portion worth of green vegetables just to get some protein.
If you are really in need of high protein strictly vegetarian for whatever reason, spirulina and chlorella are good sources0
