What Will I Do?

What will I do to lose the weight?
How successful will I really be?
When will it finally click that fad diets just don't work?

So many questions run through my head when I diet. And that's exactly what I do, I diet unfortunately. And there's my problem. I don't live a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis I always look for that quick fix.

Support and motivation is welcomed. How can you help me so that I know what foods to shop for and how to actually lose the weight?

for me it took several rounds of learning how to eat better and trying to adjust how i live normally. for me that was baby steps like switching out dressing on salads to lemon juice or (now) dry. or from eating tons of white bread to whole wheat whole grain breads, which now i dont even eat i just use low carb whole wheat tortillas once in a while. or things like remembering to eat breakfast and pack a lunch at work so i dont go to the sandwich shop and get a 1000 calorie sandwich. lifestyle changes take time and energy but most of all they take dedication. keep trying, eventually it'll click for you.

Stop dieting and just start eating sensible. I tried them all too over the years but never could stick with them.. My husband and I found this page by accident and it has been not only fun but kinda a game for us. We don't do anything that we don't think we can keep up long term. We are both over 60 so crazy exercise programs or marathons are not for us. We simply started walking, 10 min., then 20, now 30 or more. We look at food calories as money to see how much we can get for the total. We are snackers so we try to get the most in we can. WE have learned to eat fruit and veggies and read every label before we buy it. We have looked at candy bars and gone 200 cals for 5 seconds of "pleasure" and skip it. It is all what works for you. You have to experiment with everything to see what you like. We still hit a buffet now and then but we plan ahead for it. We have lost over 35 pounds each since Jan this year. Good luck!!!

well, I have also noticed that I am not meeting my calories for the day. And I'm not hungry enough to eat more. But since I need to eat all of my calories, what should i eat?
  • I have had to make peace with the fact that it is going to take time to lose the weight. I am just trying to make better choices, and not really depriving myself of anything, just cutting back a little here and a little there, and adding exercise to my life. If they aren't changes you can live with then they aren't changes that are going to last. I can have a candy bar, or pizza, or whatever, so long as I have fit it into my calorie allowance for the day. I want the quick fix too, but there just isn't one. As you implement small changes and make them a part of your life you're more likely to stick with them and then lose the weight and keep it off. Hope this helps. I figure that the slower the weight comes off, the slower it will be to come back on because that means that the changes I've made are ones that I can live with, hopefully for the rest of my life. Good luck!
  • I can't remember his reasoning, but on one of Dr. Oz's shows he said that if you're trying to lose weight he recommends drinking 3, 8oz. glasses of 2% milk every day, and that he prefers that over skim milk for losing weight. He gave his reasoning, but like I said I can't remember what it was. You could always try that.

    A) More food, or
    B) Food with more calories in them.

IT'S NOT A DIET, IT'S A LIFESTYLE CHANGE. that's the only way to think about it and to be successful. :)
