I went for a run this morning and my runkeeper says I burned 518 calories running 1.5 miles in 30 mins.
But when I entered it into MFPit only said like 130...
I was doing W1D3 and finished then did a nice slow walk back to my car.
That probably killed my time in running so which should I do?

I have to run 5 miles to burn that many calories. I think your runkeeper is off, 518 cals for a mile and a half is extremely high.

I usually split the difference. I have no scientific reasoning for this, but a heart rate monitor is the only way to get 'totally' accurrate results.

I agree with this, it does sound like a lot.

Yeah I'm supposed to get 2 paychecks next week and number 1 on my list is a HRM

Yeah, that is way too many cals burned. I only get about 300 for the 5k's I run ......do you have a HRM, that will give you a much better burn review.

518 calories for 30 minutes of running seems like a lot. I wear a heartrate monitor and am on the treadmill for an hour; 55 minutes of that is straight running and I usually burn anywhere from 560-650 calories.

Everyone is different though so maybe you did burn that much. Hard to say if you don't have something monitoring your heart rate. My suggestion would be invest in one with a chest strap and then you'll know for sure. Good luck!

Yeah, a 7 mile run for me will burn like 700 or so calories.....that's an awful lot. Maybe 500 for a mile and a half sprint. =)

I agree, this sounds like way too many. I MIGHT burn that much in an hour of jogging intervals.

Runkeeper is notoriously bad at estimating calories burned. You will definitely enjoy the HRM when you get it!!

Runkeeper for me is always very accurate. But I know for a fact that 518 calories for 30 minutes is wrong. You may have the settings wrong. I just had a friend go through the same thing. It actually looked like her phone GPS was a little wonky.

Oh the map was all kinds of screwy today... I guess I will say about 200 since that's what I usually burn on the tredmill. Running outside is so much better. Now to go do research for my HRM

Great choice! It is the only way to really know. It used to drive me crazy to see the machines at the gym, and then MFP... once I got my heart rate monitor, I realized they were all way off for me. You will also see how different your own burn can be. I will do the same thing 2 days in a row, with what "feels" and seems like the same intensity, and it will be off by a significant amount. It feels so good to know the true number! It is also a motivator during your workout. I sometimes look at mine thinking I better pick it up. Sometimes I look and think "you rock girl!"

    Both are equally motivating!

Sounds high. I use a Garmin Forerunner 305 with a heart rate monitor. I LOVE it! It track miles, calories, time. I can use it on my bike also.
