Pole Dancing

I've been thinking of taking pole dancing classes at my local gym, but I'm wondering how many calories can be burned on average.
(MFP doesn't have it in their database, go figure)

Also, for anyone who has taken classes before, do you get to use your own pole or do you have to share? I'm looking to tone my arms, tummy and legs as well, although I'm not sure which body parts are the most targetted in pole dance.

P.S., Private classes with 7 others are 160$ for 8 weeks (1 class per week)
The ones at my local gym are 99$ for 20 classes. - Price wise, amazing, However, I'm wondering if I'd get my own pole or if the workout would be better in a smaller group, as you'd get more one-on-one time with the instructor.

So, anyone tried this? Love it? Hate it? Share! :)

well i do not have but one experience to share with you: about two weeks ago i hosted a pole dance birthday party for myself(hence my profile pic:) and i will tell you that I don't see how anyone wouldn't lose weight and/or tone very quickly with pole dance! it was a great workout and my muscles were sore for 3 days after. Good luck! let me know if you start classes! and if you'd like add me:)

Not having tried it myself... ;) I'd say that your arms and chest would be most targeted by a pole dancing routine.

I love pole dancing. I would recommend working with someone else before getting your own pole if classes are available. Pole works everything out pretty well. I was a belly dancer before finding pole and pole works my abs out way more than belly dancing ever did. I have never had stronger abs than with pole dancing. I am not sure how many calories you would burn. It varies quite a bit. For example, some days I just dance around the pole and I don't do too many spins or climbs or inverts. That is obviously going to burn less calories than when I spend my time doing aerial stunts. Pole is cardio, strength training and flexibility training all rolled up into one. It is a lot harder than it looks, but it is very addicting which makes it easier to workout!
