Nut allergies

I don't have the allergy personally, however I ran into someone who does and it got me thinking.

What do you do to fill in the calorie holes if you can't eat nuts or peanut butter? Does sunflower seed butter
cut it, or is that a bad substitute?

I have a peanut/tree nut allergy, am gluten-free and lactose-free, and there are lots of delicious and healthy options available. I find adding pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds etc., are a nice nutrient-dense way to add crunch and taste to a salad, for example. I also was very excited the day I found soy butter, and the brand I use tastes just like peanut butter and is gorgeous on a rice cake with some banana or strawberries sliced on top.

Here's another response :) I have a tree nut allergy only. Peanuts are fine, they are legumes and I am not allergic to legumes, thank goodness! I love peanut butter and when I was younger, I would have lived off it. Given the high calorie count, I prefer not to these days.

For many of the recipes that require Almonds though, I tend to substitute with sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. Either that, or I just don't add anything.

I tried getting a professional opinion on a good substitute for Almonds before and the professionals were not that helpful. My RN though likes what I have chosen to do.

Thanks for the feedback Ayla :) I appreciate it, and now I have even learned that peanut allergy doesn't MEAN nut allergy, or the other way around. (I never realised allergies could be so explicit or exclusive..) Thanks for sharing :flowerforyou:
