So, my children want to run too! What is your take on them doing this program? Their ages are 9 (she really wants to try this because she doesn't do well on the mile runs at school, but is super fit) 5 yr boy 5 yr girl(one of the twins, he would out run me) and 4 yr boy.
I think pros and cons to this might be nice! THANKS

I am starting this tonight and I am going to let my daughters do it with me! They are 8 and 13. I think it will be a great way to get fitness in and spend time with your kids!0

good to hear... add me and let me know how it goes!0

I say include them! I think it might be difficult taking all 4, but a double jogger may help. I swear by them...the good ones will support a lot of weight and are a breeze to push. My kids tell me when I am slacking and need to go faster, though they don't seem to understand that Mommy gets tired a few miles in sometimes lol.0

I thought about doing it with my inactive, almost 8 year old. I figured he should get fitted for running shoes too, but I'm not sure I want to shell out $100 for shoes when he might decide he doesn't want to do it.
Not sure if it's ok to put that much pressure on their joints at this age, I was going to ask the pediatrician.0 -
I think its a great idea. My daughter is 9 and just finished Girls on the Run. She ran/walked her first 5k last month. They didn't use a formal interval training plan. They just encouraged them to run or walk at each workout. She ran a 5k in practice but she had to walk a little on race day. Needless to say, i think an interval plan like c25k is a wonderful idea. I'm thinking of doing this with my daughter as well. Its also a good bonding time with your kids.
Someone should start a c25k mommy and me group :smooched:0 -
Thank you all so so much...! I am going to do it... they are all on board, if any of them decide it is not for them, they don't have too.... as for joint issues.... ??? good point, but I am leaning to believe that the amount of exercise my kids already participate in this won't be an issue for them, not to mention they really have no weight on their joints anyway... 3 of them are under 40 lbs and my oldest is 60, but she is is on a competitive jump rope team. So, I think she is used to the impact.
Stroller= I had a bob stroller, THEY ROCK... It was a double stroller also, but they WILL NOT sit in it anymore, I sold it.
I'm excited and it doesn't hurt to try!! I hope!! Cross your fingers as I will be running with 4 kids this afternoon...eeek!!0 -
My son is 6 and does this with me. He ends up running the entire time though. But sure include them!!0

I was SO glad to see this today. I am currently staying at home with my 5 year old (he is as big as his 6 year old cousins...bigger than several of them). I started teh C25K today and had him do it with me. He is a couch potato though and complained pretty much the whole time. I was afraid, since he is young, someone might think it was child abuse, but as I am nearly 275 pounds, I would think it should be a picnic for a fit 5 year old to keep up with me (he is perfect in his weight for his height...75th % on both). My sister said that they will make him run in gym class, so this should not be a problem. Really, I want to keep him from having the weight/fitness problems that I have had. I WISH my mom would have done this with us kids!0

I've recently decided to start running again, and my 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son both want to do it with me. I've taken each of them once, and we did 2.3 miles, and both of them were able to run half of the time we were out. I've been a little worried of what people will think of my kids out running, but don't see how it could be bad for them. They love being active and they have a marathon club at their school each fall that they both want to do this coming year.0

My twins are 8 and currently my daughter occasionally comes for runs with me but on her bike. She did once come for a run but I couldnt slow her down and she ended up with stitch and then got bored we ended up at the park i was so glad i had done my training run first. They both want to learn now we are joining the local athletics club my son had autism and ADHD and I am not sure I would have the patience Also my daughter is being assessed for hypermobility syndrome and i want a professional to keep an eye on her as I don,t want to injure herself. She dances and does gymnastics so is very fit and flexible. My son does no exercise other than at school and walking to school so really want to get him into something.
We are all doing a 5k in july and my niece as well hopefully this will go well. feel free to add me I have just completed a half marathon and in training for a marathon could use the motivation and give the same in return.0 -
UPDATE WEEK TWO FOR THE KIDS They are doing awesome!! I am glad to be doing this with them. THEY really love the one on one time versus going as a group. It seems to be a great way to bond with your children and also doing something healthy... FEEL FREE to add me through this journey you all are taking as well! Thanks for the encouragement!0
