No weight loss / small gain?

Hi everyone, hoping you can help!
I started my new regime a few weeks ago. I have been doing at least 30 mins of cardio (mainly very brisk walking) every day and have been sticking to my calories (around 1450). I have always eaten mainly fresh foods, very little processed so the big change for me has been portion size and cutting out the biscuits and other naughty treats, plus cutting back on the home-made bread which I really miss
BUT no weight loss, in fact when I have just tried the scales today they are being really mean and telling me I have put on 2 lbs!! I am aiming for 1 1/2 lbs a week to loose 40lbs altogether. This is my period week but I was still hoping for a loss to show as previously when I have "dieted" (slimming world, weight watchers) I have had a big drop in the first few weeks. Finding it frustrating as my first goal was to loose 4lbs in 2 weeks to bring me under 14 stone as a little kick start.
I don't intend to stop as I know that eventually it should all start to kick in but was wondering if anyone could see if I needed to change anything or had any other advice?
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

if you've upped your exercise regime its more than likely your muscles retaining water to help fix themselves.
Keep at it and it will soon reverse itself!0 -
Here is the good new. You're on your period so you can carry an extra 3-5 lbs easily. I would keep doing what you are doing and add some strength training a few days to build muscle. Muscle burns fat. I would also try to keep my carbs under 100 per day. You are doing great...just keep going and it will pay off. I promise.0

It is more a case that I have started a regime! I never had one before, I am quite generally active and busy but have not fitted in any structured exercise so that maybe so, I have noticed a few muscles waking up!0

I would say kick up your exercise. You arent going to burn much on a 30 min walk. That would be more heart healthy then calorie burn. It's a step in the right direction.0

Hi Lisa, I have just had a quick look at your food diary for the last 7 days and I must say you seem to eat very well. The only things you tend to exceed your goals on are protein and fibre which I would assume isn't too bad.
One thing I did notice though is you do not track your sugar, maybe it would be a good idea to add this as it is quite important.
It's really surprising how quickly fruit sugars add up, some days I'm over my limit just by having 2 pieces of fruit.
I'm not saying cut back on your fruit but some fruits contain much more sugar than others. If you were to track it you could see if this is contributing somehow.
Don't be disheartened. It is a difficult enough 'time of the month' without stressing about a couple of lb here or there.
Stick to what you're doing through your period and check again a week after, I bet you'll have lost.
Good luck.0 -
Hi Lisa, don't rush it, your body has a lot to adjust too, and eventually you will start to see the weight shift.
When I started out on MFP, I did not weigh myself until after 1 month as I knew that with all the exercise I was doing that I would not lose so much early on. This was proved right, and after 6 weeks my body had adjusted and I started to lose weight steadily.
Losing weight steadily with exercise has resulted in not just the scales budging, but the inches dropping and my body being a lot firmer than had I just dieted.
Good luck with your weight loss, and bear with it as it sounds like you are doing averything right, you will get results.0 -
What they all said, plus how much water do you drink? And what is your sodium intake. Even a single salty meal will up my weight by about 3 lbs for about 3 days. More if I'm not drinking about 3 quarts a day of mostly water. If you're not drinking enough water, your kidneys won't have the fluid they need to flush what you're burning out of your body...so you'll burn fat, but the numbers won't really go down. Try to drink about 1 oz of water per kg of body weight each day as a minimum.0

Just changed it to track sugar and I have gone quite a bit over. The fruit is a new thing for me, I have been more of a veggie girl so I will keep an eye on it, thanks!0 -

I do try to drink at least my 8 glasses but some-days I slip, just checked my sodium and it seems to be OK but I will keep an eye on the salt I am adding to our home cooked meals. Another good tip! Thanks.0 -

I was really surprised when I started noticing that I was always over on sugar yet I never add sugar to anything I eat and I very rarely eat sweet stuff at all but then noticed it was only when I ate fruit that I exceeded that goal, I couldn't believe that 1 apple and 1 pear could wipe out my daily sugar goal so now I am really careful about not going over.
Although saying that, I'm sure I read that the body processes natural fruit sugars in a different way than it does other sugars so maybe it's not too bad after all? I should have trained to be a nutritionist then I'd have an idea what I'm talking about, lol!0
