Some days are good and others i'm just out of control with food, last night I was doing great all day eating healthy and had a great work out then.... whatever came over me....I started eating like a mad woman... I had what I would call a "small binge", then I feel terrible afterwards cause I didn't need to do that. How can I avoid doing this, not saying it'll never happen but what can I do to NOT binge, or excessively eat when i'm not actually hungry?? Thanks:)

I have days like that, too. It takes time. I've been on this journey for over a year now and it's never easy. For me, I've had to train myself to not listen to the "old me" that most of the time I succeed in locking away. But I'm also realistic. I'm not looking for a quick, large weight drop. It's taking me longer to get down because I'm also living my life and learning about how to fuel my body.

You've already taken the first step...being on MFP and admitting that you need help. :) Maybe try looking at what you've eaten to what you binged on. I know that when I binge, it's usually on something that I need, like good fats. I tend to binge on peanut butter (it's a weakness). You can always try incorporating little "treats" into your day so you feel like you're being "bad" but are really being good.

I just have to tell myself that I'm going to feel bad afterward. I was picking up some sushi for supper last night and it's right beside the BEST bakery in the entire city...I wanted a cupcake so so so bad! But I told myself 'NO!' and just kept walking past...really fast! haha! I didn't give myself time to think about it...but hopped in the car and left!
  • Hi,
This happens to me frequently too, I haven't managed to identify any triggers to my binges yet. What I have found helps is just being homest and making sure I add the binge food to my diary.
My diary is open for friends to view too and I have had some encouraging words about 'honest logging' - I find it's theraputic to admit these binges by honestly logging what I've eaten and displaying it to the world! It feels then like I've confessed if youl like.
Also it seems to stop the binge going any further as I realise that the calories I have eaten are really not as bad as I had thought - This means I start the next day afresh and on track again - In the past I wouldn't have logged it and then would have binged for 2 or 3 days based on the fact that I thought I had totally blown my calorie intake.

I say it took years for us to form these destructive relationships with food and we are not going to just change it over night.

    just keep going :)

The only thing in this universe over which you have any control is yourself.

Simply put, you have to think. Think about your goals. Think about the lifestyle you want to lead. Think about living that lifestyle instead of "being on a diet".

Being on a diet implies a negative, being deprived of something. Living a healthier, happier lifestyle is a positive and that mindset can make all the difference.

If you are living a lifestyle instead of just dieting you can eat anything you want to eat as long as it fits within your calorie and exercise goals.

The fact that you recognize the problem is the first step toward fixing it. Apply your mind, keep your goals firmly in hand, and go at it one day at a time.

Um, well, I sort of let myself binge when I need to, but I'm still always under my cals because I keep a bunch of stuff in the house that's low cal, etc. For instance, some say it's bad to replace food with stuff that's not good for you, but I figure, hey, I could eat 20 cookies OR I could eat 4 cups of sugar free jello (Yes, I have done this to the tune of 40 cals). I have those Special K chips for when I think I'll die if I don't have some potato chips and I keep sugar free dark chocolate pudding (they last pretty much forever) and weight watchers smart ones in the freezer if I really need an ice cream fix.

So sure, I don't always eat healthy, but I always make that d*mn calorie goal.

BTW, I do eat healthy most of the time, but dudette, when you want a tato chip and dip and you just gotta have it, Dean's lo cal dip (35 cals for 2 tbsps) and 30 Sea Salt Special K chips (100 cals) are better than 9 Ruffles (which you know I'm not stopping at 9) and regular dip for 500 - 1000 cals.

Keep the spirit, Chica!! You can do this. And as I always say, you deserve to be happy, healthy, and have energy!!

Everyone is different. For me? It's not having the "bad stuff" (the stuff I crave that's not good for me) in the house. And not eating it. I'm not a "everything in moderation" person in that way. Or rather I wasn't. After 12 years of NOT eating crap, when I do I don't enjoy it. But for me? Don't eat it at all was my mantra.

Thanks everyone:) I'm so happy with all these responses. They have really picked up my spirits and it's so great everyone can sort of relate! I get so down, and feel so sick, when I have these "binge" days, i'm still a "work in prgoress" stage, of my weightloss journey, so i'm still learning how to deal with it all. SO thanks everyone for the encourageing words, and helpful solutions, reallymeans alot:) xo.
