Today I reached my first 5 lb goal. I started at 220 now at 215, three years ago I was 120 so it was a dramatic weight gain for me. I am determined to get to 150 but it seams so far away and need motivation to get there. If any of you have been in this position I would love to hear your success stories! Thanks

I was in the 120s three or four years ago, started this in November at 232, and have lost 40 pounds. I keep on going, although often I don't feel very motivated either, and it's so sloooooooooooooooow. But add me if you want. Having friends on here does help.

Thank you so much, I know it will eventually it will come off it just seams like such an extreme goal.
  • I know 5 pounds doesn't seem like a lot but it's a lot of work to melt off just 1 pound. We gain it so easily, not realizing it will be 5 times harder to get rid of that one pound. I've lost 27 pounds and I notice a huge difference, I'm down 2 pant sizes but it took me 2 months to lose that much and when I look at that number I think "really? is that it?" You just have to push yourself along, and tell yourself going back up isn't an option. I'm finding myself slowing down, but it helps a lot having friends on here that help you celebrate the little things like staying under your calorie goal or getting your butt up to walk. It's even better when you can record a loss and everyone is happy for you. Keep with it!

The other day I got discouraged and went to the grocery store and filled my cart with 24 pounds of butter a visual reminder of how much is gone... Of course i then had to put it all back maybe i should have logged as 1 pound weights LOL

Good job!!! You have to lose the first one pound, the first five pounds to ever get to the first hundred pounds!!! One step at a time....good job!!

I tackle my weight loss in 10lb sections. I don't look at it as "oh my gosh I have 40-50lbs to loose!" I look at it as "10lbs to go!" then once I reach that goal, start again "10lbs to go!"

I'm right there with you. I'm trying to get down to 150 from 254, and I've only lost 6 pounds so far. But it really does help when you make it a lifestyle change, not a diet. That way, you can tell yourself "I'd be doing this regardless of whether or not I lost weight as a result.". And if you have a week without weight loss, it doesn't feel like a waste, it just feels like a week in your new life. And make sure that the changes that you're making are sustainable, so that you can keep it up when you do reach your goal weight.

That is awesome and next time I get discouraged I need to do that and maybe it will put things in prospective for me.

Even 0.25 pounds is a stick of butter around here! So where do you want that if losing it doesn't seem like that big a deal?! You've lost 20 sticks of it!!!

Seriously, though, I think my motivation really started to wane after 10 pounds or so when I didn't see a change in the mirror (or at least not a really noticeable one) even though the scale was moving. Still, I'd done all that work and I wasn't going to quit...and you know what? Not too long after, my pants started getting lose, people began commenting, and I sure as heck felt better when I walked or ran.

You'll get there, just keep plugging away one day at a time and one pound at a time! :flowerforyou:

If you lose 1 lb a week, it might seem slow.

But I can guarantee you this. If you lose 1 lb a week - in 1 year you will weight 52lbs less.

If you give up, then in 1 year, you will be the same, except that you will be older.

Don't let anyone tell you that it's not worth it, or that you can't do this -- because you are doing it, and there is no time limit for success.
