Spin Lock Collars

I have a spin lock curl bar and dumbell set that use the spin lock star collars. I had been using 'solid' dumbells sporadically over a few years but am now amping up my lifting again. My husband keeps them loaded up but that's a complaint for another day LOL (they were mine when we met ).
Anyway, several of the collars have lost their rubber washer/gasket and become loose during a set. For my purposes, it's just annoying and not a safety issue. Do you think I could go to a hardware store and/or 'homemake' my own replacement washer? I've not found a replacement part specifically for these collars and think it's ridiculous to buy new collars.

Well being an engineer I would just pull out my handyman skills and buy washers and then self fit them on, however I would read the manual to make sure that what I am doing will not affect the safety of the collars0 -
Thank you for your suggestion. I figured there was a way to make one but I'm not mechanically inclined and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. I'll give it a try.0
