A bacon sundae?? REALLY??

Actually this makes me wonder why more restaurants don't put bacon creme brulee on their menu. It sounds delightful.

You'd have texture problems. A good creme needs to set for some time and a lot of that set time is under heat. Mix the bacon in after the cooking, and you end up with pudding. Mix the bacon in before the cooking, and the heat will soften the bacon too much.

You can get away with this in ice cream or gelato with really well-crisped bacon because you can add it after the product is expected to remain cool forever. Even then, you really have to crisp the bacon. BK is getting around this by adding the bacon on top of the sundae.

A local gelato place makes it every now and then, and one time they undercooked the bacon (edit: By that I mean, they soft-cooked the bacon to a safe temperature, but left the bacon soft enough that the ice cream dissolved it). It was REVOLTING. Excellent gelato with salty globs of soft fat. Yeech. I complained (I was the first one to buy some), and the young lady behind the counter described it as tasting like "an excellent date, from my boyfriend's perspective" and threw the pan out. Doing it wrong is easy, and it comes out really, really wrong.

I don't know how you'd overcome the challenges with a proper creme, unless you sprinkled some bacon on top just before the blowtorch was applied or something, and then you'd really run a risk of scalding the bacon or messing up the carmelization of the sugars, which would probably be OK because it's a non-traditional creme anyway.

It is the sweet/salty effect. I LOVE Ice Cream and Potato Chips...If BK doesn't make money...they will take it off the market. Loved all the comments!

You can get those ingredients in a grocery store too, I don't blame grocery stores for making me fat.

I but bacon in my chocolate chip cookies, whose fault is that? mine.

I've seen muffins with just as high of a calorie count.

Hell, one of those big cookies from a vending machine has 400 calories.

    Pass me the sundae.

Bacon is not evil. Depending on the cooking technique and cut, it can actually be quite lean.

    And bacon is tasty.

Other than the unfortunate typo, I see nothing to find fault with in bacon-infused chocolate chip cookies.

Is there anything about the fat content that would prevent putting a bacon essence in the cream before it sets and then maybe sprinkling a bit of cooked bacon on top after the torching? You wouldn't want to overpower the creme, obviously, so you'd have to fiddle with the flavor balance.

It's a sundae that has 510 calories, 18 grams of fat, and 61 grams of sugar.

If I were to omit the word "bacon" from the original post, would it still be a big deal? No, (trick question) because it was never a big deal in the first place. 500 calories for a dessert from a fast food restaurant is still in the kiddie pool. You need to get out and read more lables/nutritional info.

On the other hand, it shocks me that food products that are obviously bad for you and that will eventually lead to several health problems (and even death if eaten regularly) are not more closely regulated and do not come with "warning lables" or something similar like cigarette packages do. I think that if people were more aware of the potential dangers of eating these foods, they would think twice about it.

    What's your opinion?
How on earth is this "obviously bad" for me?

No, we do not need big brother gubment telling me what I can and cannot eat. When does it stop?

I'm sure that if you analyze the calorie content of the ingredients, the bacon is the low calorie part of it all...

    Howdy folks,

I wanted to offer a brief explanation for the locking of this thread.

The forum guidelines include this item:
    16. Bacon jokes are no longer funny and are not permitted in the MFP Forums.

Bacon topics, particularly those that seek humor or laughs users, are overplayed and are better placed within an appropriate Group rather than the Main Forums. For example, topics relevant to bacon that you think are funny, really aren't and should not be placed on the main forums but rather within a group related to bacon jokes. We reserve the right to move any topic to a relevant public Group which interested members may join if they wish to continue to participate.

There are billions of people living today who have not died yet. We have no way of knowing if life will prove fatal for all of them. I think it's too early to judge.
