Consult a Nutritionist?

I am thinking of making an appointment with a Nutritionist. I am looking to lose over 100 lbs. Has anyone had success with one? Will I find it helpful? I would love some feedback to help me make my decision. Thank you!

I started my journey 6 weeks ago and I started it with seeing a nutritionist. I go every Tuesday for a weigh in and advice. I have lost 22 pounds and 22.5 in that time. I really like seeing the nutritionist. I feel as though it has helped me mentally if nothing else.

I went to see a nutritionist once and I found her information to be very valuable. I still use some of the tips she gave me to this day. I would go at least once and see what you think.

Thanks for the replies. I think I would benefit from it if only to see if there are some ways to combine food for better results (like carbs with protein etc...) and maybe some ideas on what to do when I want to eat due to being emotional. It's a struggle and right now because I'm in week 2 I still have TONS of will power, but how long is that gonna last?
Again thank you for taking the time to respond! Have a great day and congrats on the weight loss!! You are inspiring!

I went to see a nutritionalist, when I actually met her, SHE was overweight, and told me not to lose any more (and at the time my BMI was 24, in the range but i still wanted to drop a few more pounds, I didnt feel comfortable that weight). Then she lectured me about drinking milk (told me not to, and gave me a flyer about the evils of milk). The rest of the stuff she told me? you pick up within 20 mins of floating about MFP. Needless to say I never went back.

Yeh, that's what I was afraid of. Hopefully if I choose to go I'll get someone that knows what they are doing. But you are so right ALOT of people on MFP have great ideas and are very supportive-something we all need when we are trying to lose weight. I appreciate your honesty!

Do you like to read? There are a few books out right now that basically explain everything a good nutritionist woud tell you and more.

Dr. Dean Ornish's "The Spectrum" is excellent. "Forks Over Knives" is also a great synopsis of what other nutritionists and doctors have been teaching about.

    Hope that helps!

If you do see a nutritionist, I'd recommend finding someone who teaches intuitive eating.

    Good luck!
