Today - an absolute first for me in a restaurant. Not eating an expensive meal because it was GROSS and FATTENING.

I've been traveling 3 weeks and managed to stay under my net calories - triumph!

I went out tonight - the night before I fly home - and was REALLY hungry and decided to treat myself to a nice dinner - lamb brisket and sausage, potatoes, and veggies. I know a high cal meal but I had it in this week's calorie budget and I was hungry. I took a walk before hand to get a little extra slack.

The lamb brisket arrived and it was GROSS. Essentially three coiled rings of fat. Pretty, but when I looked at it I couldn't even find the meat that wasn't fat. I took a few stabs at it, looked at the calorie count (400 cals for 4 oz) and decided to leave it on my plate. Lamb sausage was excellent and worth every delicious calories. Two lovely asparagus (one white one green) and a real baby carrot.

And then what looked like two cups of lovely boiled potatoes and artichoke with a dill/creme fraiche sauce that turned out to taste like bad potato salad with too much mustard. Ate a quarter cup and left the rest on my plate.

It still wound up as a 428 calorie dinner - even an oz of the lamb and a 1/4 cup of the potatoes with sauce add up. Plus the 180 calorie sausage.

But I felt really good about not eating food that I didn't like and didn't want just because it was on my plate. And the waiter, when he asked and I told him why I hadn't eaten it, gave me 20% off. Which was nice and I didn't expect.

And I still have 57 calories left for the day - thanks to the extra walk.

    That's a great victory.
It may not be you changing though, in my experience ordering meat like that is a crap shoot, even in the best restaurants.
When I order meat, it is fish, burgers or steak, as plain as possible.

:flowerforyou: What a VICTORY! Congrats!! When we become educated about how to eat...even when we fall off the wagon, our subconscious holds what is RIGHT dear. Your Planning was Awesome...as you mentioned that you had it in your calorie day...another good one...CONGRATS... DEFINITELY a VICTORY...and that equals MOTIVATION to keep away from the "Dark Side"... FANTASTIC JOB!

    Thanks to all.

Yes, I usually do eat very plain food out - I travel a lot and have learned. But this was supposed to be local, fancy, organic meat and they didn't mention sauces.

Some people just do not understand how hard just walking away can be... You have the 'I Paid for it, im Eating it" mindset. Also, just saying no is hard for some people.... That is how McDonald's makes millions on the "Would you want two pies for a dollar?"

Good job on seeing how bad it was, and walking away!!!!
