For me....when I run outside on pavement through the neighborhood...my right knee is hurting like heck...
but if I run the same time frame on Soft Trak treadmills...
no issues with knees...0 -
I'll have to second that. I follow Runner's World "Run Your Butt Off" and I have to say that I have had no problems with my knees.0

I cant run on treadmills, that give me knee pain, but running on the streets or dirt no problem.0

which treadmills have you tried...cause like you there are these cheap treadmills in gold's gym no one uses...and they give me knee trouble too...but
Soft Trak...I can run on...they have some sort of bouncy system to it...makes it easier on the joints...I can't explain it0 -

this is me too!!! I thought I was crazy, running or walking on the treadmill kills my knee and ankles, but sidewalks are no problem.0 -

Was going to say something similar!
To those with knee problems, shin splints and any other aches and pains that occur when running, it is definitely a good idea to go along to a sports shop that specialises in running shoes and measures your running gait. If fitted with the correct shoes, many of the injuries can disappear and you will be able to run to your heart's content.0 -
My left knee hurts when I jog for more than 2 miles. Before my new shoes, it happened after a mile. Then I try to compensate by putting more weight on my right leg so I end up limp-jogging. It takes 3-4 days to recover before i can jog again.
Looking for a better knee brace. Anyone know of a good brand?0 -
I experience a great deal of pain while running! I do have some pain in my right knee, but thats from a 20 y/o surgery. Mostly I have pain in my lungs, my chest, and my pride! Ha-ha0

when I was in highschool, i had knee problems.. I used a brace and ended up making it worse. I had MUCH better results and relief from taping it. See if you can see a physical therapist.0 -

Before you go the knee brace route (kind of a band aid solution) have a look around on runnersworld.com specifically for videos & articles relating to knee pain, You'd be surprised how much of it has nothing to do with your knees but is a manifestation of muscular imbalances and/or weak hips & glutes.0 -
I used to think running hurt my knee (only the left one had issues). Saw a sports medicine doc. Found out it was actually IT band issues. Added a few IT stretches and haven't had a problem in years.0
-
I also had/have problems with the outside of my knees due to IT issues. I now stretch before and after and only have a problem when I increase my mileage.0
-
But if you're 20 pounds or more overweight, it could ruin your knees, says one of the articles he cites. I guess it's going to be a while for me then.0
