Nike fitness app accuracy? (nano ipod)

I just got a new Nano iPod, and there is an awesome Nike fitness app on it that times my workouts and also claims to measure my distance and pace and calories burned! Does anyone know if their distance/pace/calorie measurements are accurate? I just don't get how they can measure my pace, it seems magical, LOL.

I am not sure on accuracy of the app with the built in accelerometer, but I use to use Nike+ that used the foot pod and found that to be fairly accurate most of time when calibrated correctly. I would think the foot pod sensor would measure differently than the accelerometer, but who knows0

Does it connect to GPS? I have an app on my cell phone that measures distance and pace and that is how it works. I have found it to be quite accurate and it does give a calorie burn that is really close to what mfp says.0
